POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The Swan: Behind the Mirror is out today on Hulu!

When Erin, Rachel, and I first talked about the look we wanted to create for the interviews of “The Swans,” we knew we wanted it to feel like a warm embrace. These women would be sharing deeply personal and vulnerable stories with us, and we wanted them to feel safe, and comfortable to be able to reclaim authorship over their own image. We wanted the lighting to be gentle and flattering, like being in a cozy living room with soft late-afternoon sunlight filtering through curtains. The interviews of the Swan producers and plastic surgeon would be set in front of a deep red curtain and lit more dramatically, similar to the kind of set the Swans were filmed in front of during their reveals.

There were some limitations, such as filming an entire feature documentary in two weeks!! and needing to create distinctive looks for every interview while shooting them all in one studio space. Luckily, I got to work with the most incredibly talented, hardworking, and fun team! I’m also so thankful to have worked with the wildly talented and energetic director, @erinleecarr (and her sidekick Bonnie 🐶, who was like a therapist for us all). Erin is the only director I’ve ever worked with who had everyone on set dancing with her before EVERY interview!

𝑬𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 short film directed by the fabulous @elisa.richards that we shot all in one day with a talented small team for the @disabilityfilmchallenge 🎥 Captured on Canon FD’s paired with an ARRI AMIRA. Mostly framed for 16:9 with an aspect ratio change of 4:3 and a lens change of the Helios 58mm for memories. Link in bio to watch!

I wrote & directed a short film about generational deafness for the @disabilityfilmchallenge 🤟🏼

I haven’t seen a lot of hard-of-hearing stories on TV or film so I wanted to visually display various ways that DHH people live. Whether that’s through the strobe light doorbell or using cards / games to connect with people when you need a hearing break.

Deafies, please support this film by watching our short @enough.mov on YouTube & sharing with your friends! Link is in bio.

Proud to have directed Foul Play with Anthony Davis, a new hidden camera comedy series on TBS. The challenge every episode: make the environment feel completely real, hide an entire production in plain sight, and capture the one reaction that can never happen twice. LeBron James, Draymond Green, Jordan Chiles, and Rickea Jackson are just the beginning.
None of it works without an incredible camera team and some of the most fearless improv actors in the business @davestorrs @reen_machine, walked into rooms with NBA champions and committed every single time.
Premieres tomorrow after the NCAA National Championship on TBS, TNT and truTV. New episodes Mondays at 9 on TBS.

Some Helios fun (with a glimmer glass filter so please don’t cue the “dirty filter” comments 🥴) with Director @elisa.richards on a special project this week 🩷🎥
