A huge thank you to the film director Fabio Bottani for giving us the incredible opportunity to experience his docufilm “L’arrivée de la Jeunesse.”

This historical film tells the story of Italian immigration in Luxembourg, weaving together five generations in just 54 minutes and showing how values and priorities evolve over time. Fabio’s passion for cinema is truly magnetic, and being in his presence, we could feel every ounce of his dedication and energy. Most of all, he left us with a powerful message: “never give up.” Thank you for inspiring us and reminding us why storytelling matters.

We were also honored to welcome special guest Luisa Caldognetto, the historical consultant and a key figure in the development of the docufilm. Professor Caldognetto has played an instrumental role in shaping its narrative and ensuring historical accuracy. During her remarks, she emphasized how the docufilm thoughtfully explores and highlights the role of women, shedding light on their contributions and experiences in a way that is both insightful and impactful.

Fabio Bottani (Milan, 1996) is an Italian Luxembourgish filmmaker and director of the docu film “L’arrivée de la Jeunesse”.
He spent part of his childhood in Portugal before moving to Luxembourg, and later to Canada, where he studied cinema and graduated from Vancouver Film School.

Produced in the context of Esch 2022 European Capital of Culture, the film is considered a powerful historical and emotional testimony to the impact of Italian immigration on Luxembourgish society. It was produced by Passa Parola Media Group and developed with the historical consultancy of Professor Luisa Caldognetto.

Tracing one hundred years of Italian emigration to Luxembourg and Lorraine through the story of a single family, the documentary weaves personal memory with historical context to reflect on identity, migration, work, and belonging.

A compelling 54 minute film blending fiction with rare archival material, the work is inspired by “Tanti italiani fa… in Lussemburgo. Viaggio nella memoria (e un po’ di storia) della nostra emigrazione” by Remo Ceccarelli.

A story of memory, identity, and migration.
