#fallforcostume2026 day 8- monochromatic
This past spring I designed Hello Dolly @regentcommarts When designing I always try to use some of the fabrics we have on hand. It helps manage our stock and keeps the budget in line. For this look I was able to pair a beautiful purple jacquard fabric from @fabrichut with a lighter purple velvet from our stock. While this wasn't my favorite thing I built for the show, I do like how the monochromatic design turned out. Purple is one of my favorite colors and it suited Mrs. Molloy perfectly!

Last year @regentcommarts did Henry V. It provided me a chance to delve into the medieval period for the first time. I had fun working with big sleeves and pleating, plus I got to do some millinery. This outfit for the French messenger was one of my favorites. In the show most of the French characters were in shades of blue. I loved this fabric from @fabrichut it worked wonderfully and was a beautiful shade of blue, making this my choice for #fallforcostume2026 day 7 prompt blue.

Prompt : Your Favorite Fabric Store(s)

IYKYK…when you find a fabric shop you love, it becomes addicting!

@mylittleshindigtoo has been my favorite shop for cotton woven and deliciously fun fabric and vinyl for years. I’ve known Katie for 6 years, and trust the quality of her materials. Plus she’s one of the sweetest humans. ✨

@fabrichut is my favorite local fabric shop. I always find just what I need, and they have the best selection of woven. I could literally walk in there looking for something made up, and find it within minutes. 🤌🏻 Love love love this shop. 🪡🧵

This is definitely one of those dresses that just make you feel good. So feminine. So soft. Fabric is a rayon challis from @fabrichut and the sewing pattern is the the #elizabethcaftan by @gertie18 I made a size 12 in a D-Cup and sewed in bra cups so I don’t have to wear a bra. My mom is gifting me her longarm, and it arrives in 2 weeks!

So now I have 14 days alone with this quilt top, and my inner Miranda Priestly has started judging the background contrast.

She suggests a subtle blend between background blocks with Derwent Inktense pencils so the fireworks stay the loudest thing in the room.

The angel on my other shoulder says to put the pigments down and find a new 2-week obsession.

So tell me:

Blend the backgrounds and embrace the creative tyrant?
Or tell Miranda, “That’s all,” and wait for the longarm?

I bought this yellow shirt last week and it’s a little short/a little too much belly is showing for my liking. Of course, the intended wearer has decided it’s her favorite and she must fight me on it.

As I got to studying it, as one does, I realized this high end shirt is actually quite easily(shoddily) made, with polyester(yuck), and I happened to have some fab(ulous) Liberty fab(ric) that needed a pattern.

This is the result, minus a fake button placket because ain’t nobody got time for sewing on buttons that don’t even function.

Love, love, love it!!
.
Liberty fabric is from the best fabric store in the area, @fabrichut

Yesterday was the first (of hopefully may yet to come) @armedservicesartspartnership Memory Quilt Workshop. It was an amazing day filled with laughter, tears, encouragement, support, and a fantastic group of women. Each quilt was a work of art. These ladies came with 12 old tee shirts and left with a keepsake quilt they can treasure. Thank you ASAP for your partnership and the honor of sharing my love of sewing with the military community.
