We ladies went fabric shopping at #fabrictopia and #fabricity on Saturday with plans to go to Mood but didn’t make there beverage hey closed at 5 pm, the time we left Fabricity. There was a pants fitting class taught by Isabel of #beaujedesigns and bra making taught by Nikki Griffin, owner of #brabuilders

Road Trip!

I don’t know about where You live but with the exception of Quilting Fabric stores, San Antonio’s Fabric stores have almost All closed…EXCEPT ONE!!! and it’s called, FABRICTOPIA!

It’s so serious that so many people have stopped creating with fabric that unless you source online, it’s almost impossible to find in brick and mortar.
I took it for granted that it would always be easy.

This business has been in the Five Points area for 10 years and we are ALL SAVED!!!
I treated every square inch of this huge warehouse as a Sanctuary!

The staff were amazing.
I found a Kindred Spirit that remembers sitting with his Grandmother looking at Pattern books just as I did with my Mother.
Such beautiful Memories!
He showed me a Fabric he used to make a raincoat out of and I could SEE the red lining he used, in my Imagination.

My first project is to hopefully “deconstruct” a top seen in one of the slides, to make a new pattern of it, and reconstruct it perhaps in one of the Fabrics shown.

I loved so many fabrics that I could have selected 20!

I’ve been known to use the fabric Inside Out so that’s TBDetermined!

Of Course I’ll have overage but no worries, if I do, I’ll use it to dress a Ceramic Doll!

Their selection of Trim was also UNBELIEVABLE!

I hope this has inspired You to also take a Road Trip to FABRICTOPIA or to a Fabric Store near You.
Don’t take them for granted…they NEED US!

My 2026 sewing goal is to sew the basics that I need. I recently made a cross state move from 50 years in a coastal town where I ran around half naked all the time, to a region where it gets cold🥶🥶🥶. I had few long sleeved tshirts, maybe one turtleneck that was made of mesh 😅 so I set to work batch sewing my stash fabric for temperatures that routinely enter into the 30s.
I also have the goal to sew some patterns that I've not sewn before, as I tend to fall back on fast, easy TNT patterns. The Simplicity knit overalls are sooo comfortable and I've already worn them twice in 2026.
