If you know Eritrean culture, you can probably tell which ethnic group someone is from just by the colors and patterns in their traditional clothing 🇪🇷

Also… can we talk about how GOOD the bridesmaids looked? 😭

My family is from the Bilen (or Blin) ethnic group, one of Eritrea’s nine ethnic groups, primarily from the Keren region. Bilen traditional clothing is especially known for its bold red, orange and yellow patterns — so much so that a lot of Eritreans can immediately recognize a Bilen outfit the second they see it.

Bilen women are also traditionally known for brightly colored clothing and detailed jewelry, which has long been an important part of cultural identity and celebration.

I love that even before hearing someone speak, you can often tell what Eritrean ethnic group they’re from just by the style, colors, and design of their clothing. There’s so much history and identity woven into it.

If you’re Eritrean, can you tell someone’s ethnic group from their traditional clothing? And if you’re not Eritrean, is this your first time learning how diverse Eritrean cultures are? 👀

The amount of energy Eritreans bring BEFORE the wedding even starts needs to be studied 😭🇪🇷

Growing up, I genuinely thought multi-day weddings were normal because this is what I was used to seeing.

Also… aunties will somehow dance harder than everyone else combined.

One thing I’ll always appreciate about Eritrean celebrations is how community-oriented they feel. There’s never really a “small gathering” 😭

And this was only the beginning of the weekend.
