How bad is a monster movie made in just a couple hours?

I had a stupid monster puppet, a pool, my kids, a couple friends and a few hours. Instead of planning the sh!t out of it, we basically said, "F**k it. Let's make a movie."

The result is SLIMY JOE.

It's weird. It's homemade. It's definitely low budget. And it's exactly the kind of filmmaking that reminds me why I love doing this shit in the first place.

But is it any good?

You'll have to decide that part.

Watch the full SLIMY JOE right now on the Flush Studios YouTube channel.

SLIMY JOE IS OUT!
(LINK IN BIO)

A monster. A pool. Some friends. My kids. A few hours.
That's pretty much the entire production story.

We didn't make this because we thought it would launch a career or get into a bunch of festivals. I can't afford to go to any more fests this year at this point as it is... We made it because we had everything we needed sitting right in front of us and making a stupid monster movie sounded like fun.

I think that's the best reason to make anything most of the time. So many people throw ideas at me but then we never get anything made.

Go watch SLIMY JOE. And then go make some weird shit of your own.

I'm releasing a new short film called SLIMY JOE.

Why did I make it?

I had a monster. I had a pool. My kids were there. My friends Dan and Strauss were there. So why the hell NOT!?

No budget or big plans. No worrying about whether it was important or whether anybody wanted it. We made something because making movies is f**kin' fun.

A lot of us need to remind ourselves this is okay to do! Go make a thing.

SLIMY JOE — COMING NEXT WEEK!

SLIMY JOE IS COMING.

We had a pool. We had a monster puppet. We had a few hours to kill.

So Dan, Strauss, Max, Raphie and I made a stupid little monster movie.

No big plan or budget. Just an afternoon of screwing around and making something because we could. I'm putting the final touches on Slimy Joe now!

We made a movie because we had a puppet, a swimming pool and an afternoon to screw around.

That’s basically the origin story of SLIMY JOE.

The puppet was built by Nate Strauss for another project, Dan came up with this ridiculous idea for what we could do with him, Strauss and Dan came over, I grabbed the camera and we spent a few hours making a movie with my boys.

No giant plan. No months of prep. Just LET’S DO THE DAMN THING.

I’ve spent the last few days cutting it together and I’ll be working on the VFX over the next week.

And man, THIS is the kind of filmmaking that’s exciting me right now. Grab some friends. Use what you’ve got. Make something weird. Finish it. Then go make more shit.

SLIMY JOE is coming.

After a lot of hard work, I’m incredibly excited to finally say that GET THAT DICK will have its World Premiere at GenreBlast Film Festival!

Max and I will be there, and we can’t wait to share this weird little movie with an audience for the very first time. Seeing it grow from a ridiculous idea into an actual feature has been an amazing journey, and now we finally get to see how it plays in a theater full of movie lovers. Inspired by Rebel Without A Crew, Sean Ashley and I set out to make something on our own with a tiny group of people, money out of our own pockets, and a ton of ambition to get it made!

GenreBlast has become one of my absolute favorite film festivals. Every time I’ve attended, I’ve left inspired to keep making movies, keep taking chances, and keep believing there’s a place for truly independent filmmaking. It means a lot that Get That Dick gets to premiere there.

If you’re able to make it, we’d love to see you there. More details, screening times, and all the fun stuff are coming soon. I can’t wait for everyone to finally meet Bugs, Roy Boy, and the rest of this wonderfully strange world.

There’s a certain kind of joy in indie filmmaking that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it.

It’s the chaos. The long days that turn into longer nights. The moments where everything feels like it’s about to fall apart… and then somehow, it doesn’t. Or it does, and you figure it out anyway.

It’s a group of people coming together to make something out of nothing. No guarantees. No safety net. Just trust, creativity, and the belief that the idea is worth chasing.

That’s the part I love most. Not just the finished film, but the process. The mess. The problem solving. The small wins that feel huge.

It’s exhausting. It’s unpredictable. It’s sometimes completely ridiculous.

And it’s one of the few things that still feels real.

Go check out Little Lucha & The Big Deal.

Making this short was one of those experiences that reminded me why I love making movies in the first place. It’s a small story, but it has a ton of heart behind it.

Acting in it was honestly a challenge for me. I’m much more comfortable behind the camera, but pushing myself into that role taught me a lot. I learned so much working alongside Daniel Degnan and Scarlet Moreno, both of whom brought so much passion and craft to this project.

That’s the best part of filmmaking — collaborating with people who push you to be better.

If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a watch. I’d genuinely love to hear what you think.

Behind the scenes from LITTLE LUCHA & THE BIG DEAL — a shoot I’ll never forget.

We filmed in Minnesota with an incredible team:
• @denniscahlo
• @mccraeole
• @meghan_theatre
• @danieldegnan
• @scarletinni
• @faffyhamirl
• And a whole group of amazing extras

In three days we dealt with heat, rain, snow, and everything in between. Classic Midwest chaos. And somehow, everyone showed up ready to work and make something special.

Huge thank you to every Seed&Spark contributor who helped bring this film to life. This movie exists because of community, trust, and a lot of stubborn determination.

I’m incredibly proud to finally share LITTLE LUCHA & THE BIG DEAL, a short film I made with the amazing @scarletinni and @danieldegnan

We’re doing a private premiere on the Flush Studios Patreon. Subscribers get to see the film early before it finds its public home. This one was built with a lot of heart, a lot of sweat, and a lot of trust from the people who helped make it.

Huge love to everyone who supported this project and helped us get it made. I can’t wait for the public premiere — but it felt right to show it first to the folks who’ve been backing the work all along.

Meet Daniel Degnan.

One of the main reasons these movies actually get made.

Daniel is the kind of collaborator every filmmaker hopes to find. He shows up early, stays late, and somehow keeps things moving when everything feels like it’s about to fall apart. He’s been there in the middle of long nights, short turnarounds, broken plans, and last-minute rewrites. When something needs to be figured out, he’s already thinking three steps ahead.

Low-budget filmmaking only works when you’re surrounded by people who believe in the work and trust the process. Daniel brings that energy every time. He’s a creative partner, a problem-solver, and someone who understands that making movies isn’t just about the final product, it’s about getting through the chaos together and still wanting to do it again.

A lot of these films wouldn’t exist without him. And the ones that do are better because of him.

Grateful to have collaborators like this in the FLUSH corner. Go follow @danieldegnan
