Portugal produces 4’000 tonnes of oyster shell waste and 13’000 tonnes of shell waste overall (mussels, clams and oysters) each year. This feedstock is currently discarded in landfills and open land, where it contaminates soils. We collect shells from local suppliers and treat them before processing them into tiles. #oyster#oystershells#biomaterial#climateweeknyc

Deep blue, up close. This is a SEACLAY bowl, nothing more than discarded oyster shells reshaped and given colour. Look at the surface: flecks of black through cobalt, like lapis, like a night sea. No glaze, no firing. Just the raw material, air cured and finished to hold whatever you set inside it. One of many colours and forms we can make. #Seaclay #ClimateWeekNYC #SeaweedSuite #DeepBlue #CircularDesign

Look closer. This is our signature. Every SEACLAY surface marbles differently, blue running through white like rivers, estuaries and coastlines seen from a satellite. No two tiles are ever the same, because water never repeats itself. From above it reads like a map. Up close it’s a table you can live with. Two years in the making by Fahrenheit.works. Find us at the Seaweed Suite, NYC, during Climate Week. #Seaclay #ClimateWeekNYC #SeaweedSuite

Beauty you can use. One material, from the palm of your hand to the spaces around you. Candle holders and vases, tables and display pieces, bar fronts and architectural surfaces. Two missions: live with it, and learn with it. Our first school pilot lands in Portugal this October, putting material innovation directly into people’s hands. Two years of work by Fahrenheit.works, and this is just the beginning. We make beauty last. From shell, to material, to something worth keeping. Find us at the Seaweed Suite, NYC, during Climate Week. Commission a collection, develop it with us, or help build the next stage. One material. Two missions. Live with it: SEACLAY becomes tiles, vases, bowls, tables and surfaces you keep close, discarded oyster shells reshaped into something worth having. Learn with it: the same material, put directly into people’s hands. Our first school pilot lands in Portugal this October, turning ocean waste into ocean literacy. One is about what you keep. The other is about what you understand. Both start with a shell. Two years in the making by Fahrenheit.works. Come find us at the Seaweed Suite, NYC, during Climate Week. #Seaclay #ClimateWeekNYC #SeaweedSuite #CircularDesign #OceanLiteracy

A shell doesn’t have to end at the table. Every year, 10 million tonnes of oyster shells are thrown away, enough to cover 70,000 football pitches. We saw a material. SEACLAY transforms discarded shells into something you can hold, use, and keep. Objects, furniture and surfaces, made from roughly 80% shell. Air cured, never fired. Two years in the making by our team at Fahrenheit.works, and we’re thrilled to finally launch it at the Seaweed Suite, NYC, during Climate Week. This is a different way to make. #Seaclay #ClimateWeekNYC #SeaweedSuite #CircularDesign #MaterialInnovation

Yesterday, some of us from the Interspecies Research Group visited the Designing Sustainable Futures exhibition at the Portugal Pavilion, where we also took part in a round-table discussion. Curated by designer Ana Mestre, the exhibition brings together inspiring examples of how design can respond to today’s ecological challenges through new materials, circular approaches, and more sustainable ways of thinking about production and making. Featuring many design pieces including works from Ana Mestre, @m.tpsimoes @fahrenheit.works @speculative_materials , and like my own Agar Piano developed with @renatalongo, many pieces were made at @biolablisboa . The exhibition is on until 31st July 2026 Shoutout to our organiser and key note speaker @frederico.s.duarte and the presenters @katiglezaki @carlospastorrrr @bernardo.gaeiras @maya_neskaa , the rest of our team @annabertmark @m.tpsimoes @beaquatica and to @m.pestana who curated the Interspecies exhibition that gave origin to this group, all originally from @iti_larsys . . . . . . #DesigningSustainableFutures #SustainableDesign #MaterialInnovation #CircularDesign IndustrialDesign
