I grew up watching performers, mesmerised by how they could hold a room. From jazz musicians in a café, to my mum dancing tango, to my brief stint studying Javanese dance in Solo, I always wondered: how did they command such presence?

Their technique was already learned. What drew me in was how they embodied the story behind the art! When I studied at the RCA London, I learned how our bodies are vessels for the stories, histories, and habits imprinted within us.

Now, as a performer myself, I’m beginning to understand what it means to have a platform, both physically and figuratively. To captivate an audience is a privilege, and a responsibility.
