Reggie Burrows Hodges is a true master of negative space. His colors seem to percolate to the surface, as though they had been pushed through the canvas from behind with a squeegee. As a result, color itself becomes the scaffolding upon which our minds complete the image, giving form to what is merely suggested. From a painterly standpoint, Reggie -a late bloomer, for sure- has made a significant contribution to the evolution of painting. His work can be uneven, but at its best -as in this painting- it is extraordinary. Reggie Burrow Hodges, Electric Chrisanthemum, 2024. Estimate $400-600,000 AUCTION Oct 29th @fairwarningart @karmakarma9 @gagosian #reggieburrowshodges

The story of behind how @naomi’s custom @alexandermcqueen Spring 2010 Look 1 dress sold for $1.5 million by @fairwarningart Muse: The Million Dollar Dress Musings: There are clothes that become collectible because they are rare, and then there are clothes that become valuable because they hold an entire cultural moment within them. Alexander McQueen’s Plato’s Atlantis showed in Paris in October 2009 and would become Lee McQueen’s final fully realized collection presented during his lifetime. The show imagined humanity evolving back toward the sea. It introduced the Armadillo shoe, which Sarah Mower described as looking like “the armored heads of a fantastical breed of antediluvian sea monster.” It was also a landmark moment for fashion and technology. The show was livestreamed through Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio, while Lady Gaga used it to premiere “Bad Romance,” driving so much traffic that the site crashed. Look 1, worn on the runway by Magdalena Frąckowiak, captured the collection’s vision of the human body becoming something reptilian, armored and no longer entirely human. Naomi Campbell later wore a custom version at Fashion for Relief in 2010, paying tribute to her late friend Lee. Sixteen years later, that same ensemble sold for $1.586 million @fairwarningart and curated by @petermbrant, setting a new auction record for McQueen. The price reflects more than the value of a dress. It reflects provenance, memory and cultural impact. Fashion becoming an artifact of its time
