Thank you to everyone who joined us on Thursday for the Book to Film IP Rights panel, hosted by The Center for California Literature + Impact Guild!

For many authors, the publishing path is familiar territory, but the road from page to screen can feel like a mystery. The panelists helped demystify that process and shared valuable insight into the current climate for film and TV adaptations. We’re so grateful to:

Michelle Kroes, Book to Film Agent at CAA
Sylvie Rabineau, Literary Media Agent at WME
Jared Ruga, Producer / Founder of Vavani Productions
Stephanie Savage, Producer / Founder of Fake Empire
Christopher Soto, The Center for California Literature

Finally, thanks to the audience for the great questions and engagement. We hope to see you back @2413hyperion for the next exhibition or event!

THE OC - THE CHRISMUKKAH SPECIAL

*** NOT A REAL SHOW / CONCEPT ONLY ***

This is an idea that I’ve had since the pandemic when I was watching The OC countless times. I watched the show since it first premiered back in 2003, but couldn’t wrap my head around how the show could have continued. The show’s finale is pretty much perfect and I didn’t think there was any reason for a full Season 5, but I did end up thinking of a way for the show to come back one more time… a Chrismukkah Special. One more episode (possibly double length) to catch up with the characters twenty years later and get some closure with some familiar faces that maybe didn’t get their story told.

I shared this idea with a few people including @the_river_west and that’s when this became a much more cohesive story with a lot more depth and purpose. River became the creative partner that I needed to make this kernel of an idea work. On the next slide, I share basic thrust of the story without giving away too much detail. We didn’t develop a complete shooting script, but more like a single page treatment that covers the major plot points. I’m not a writer, so I’m very grateful for River taking the time to flesh out the story. I think it’s a great idea and the only way I can envision The OC ever returning.

In addition to the Chrismukkah Special, I imagined a Reunion Special would also be produced to accompany it, either as a multi-night television event with possibly an additional retrospective episode to air beforehand depending on the final scope of the project. In an ideal world, all of this would be included in a comprehensive Blu-ray set that would be crowd funded on Kickstarter or a similar platform as I & others would still love to own a high definition version of the show, but know that physical media isn’t what it used to be. It’d be incredible to also include the Welcome to The OC podcast as Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke did an amazing job on that show and were so incredibly fan friendly and generous.

Please share this around as some buzz has been gathering around a potential OC reunion lately and I feel like now is the perfect time for it.
