🐢💙 A MOMENT TO BREATHE

There are moments in the ocean that are simply spectacular.

Watch this beautiful sea turtle gliding through the crystal-blue waters of Île Tintamarre, Saint Martin — almost as if she were dancing with the waves. And then, as sunlight reaches her shell, she gracefully rises to the surface for a breath. ☀️🐢

Sea turtles breathe air through their lungs, which means that even while spending most of their lives in the ocean, they must return to the surface to breathe.

This spectacular moment was captured by @Falcosxm. Thank you, Falco, for sharing your incredible footage with us and allowing The Turtleman Foundation to use it to educate and inspire more people to appreciate and protect sea turtles and the ocean they call home.

🌊 WHEN THE OCEAN FILLS WITH CALM

There is something truly special about watching a sea turtle move through the water with such peace and grace.

This green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) gently uses her powerful front flippers to push away from the seafloor and rise slowly above the reef. For a moment, she seems almost weightless, suspended in the blue, before calmly returning toward the bottom.

Her movements are a beautiful reminder of how perfectly adapted sea turtles are to life in the ocean. Their large, paddle-shaped flippers provide the strength and control needed to swim, maneuver, explore, and rest.

🌿 Beneath her is a marine ecosystem full of life. Coral reefs and rocky habitats provide shelter and important resources for many ocean species, making healthy marine ecosystems essential to the life they support.

Moments like this invite us to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the incredible creatures that share our ocean. 💙🐢

🌊🐢 Did you know sea turtles must surface to breathe?
Even though they spend most of their lives underwater, sea turtles have lungs and need to come up for air. After breathing, they descend back to the ocean floor, where they share their habitat with other fascinating marine species.

In this video, a sea turtle calmly returns to the depths and encounters a stingray, a key species that helps keep the seafloor ecosystem healthy.
