Why get a leaf when you can have a salad

Two years ago, I packed my life into a few boxes (and an entire trailer overflowing with my crap) and drove to Alabama with more questions than answers. I knew very little about Highlands College, and spent most my life trying to avoid the church route, but little did I know what He was about to do in my life.

Looking back, it’s hard to explain everything that happened because so much of the transformation wasn’t visible. It was thousands of little moments that slowly changed everything and turned me into a different person.

I’ve laughed harder than I ever thought I could and cried harder than I ever thought I would. I’ve watched God meet me in both places. There were nights I felt incredibly close to Him and nights I wondered where He was.

The friendships I found here are impossible to put into words. My friends are family now. They carried me when I couldn’t carry myself, prayed over me, traveled, worshipped, served, laughed, cried, and walked with me toward Jesus. Distance can never undo what God has woven together.

I’ve learned that following Jesus isn’t about arriving somewhere but instead it’s about the journey. Highlands reminded me that the Church isn’t a building or a production, instead It’s people carrying one another toward Jesus.

I came hoping to discover what I wanted to do but now I’m leaving more focused on who I want to become: a man who loves Jesus more than success, whose private life matches his public one, and whose greatest ambition is simply to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

I don’t leave Highlands with everything figured out. I still have dreams, questions, fears, and probably more prayers than answers, but I leave knowing the One who holds tomorrow closer and deeper, and that’s enough for me.

Thank you to every professor, pastor, friend, conversation, and prayer that became part of my story. Most of all, thank You, Jesus, for never giving up on me.

My story is not over. It has just begun.

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 1:6

Thank you, Highlands.

Forever grateful.

Soli Deo Gloria.
