Hello there! 👋🏻
— it’s Claire and Angela from Wyrd Sisters Films.

We’ve recently wrapped production on our new short film ‘Snow Red: The Bear and the Prince’, and we’re now moving into the post-production phase.

This project was made completely without a budget, but with an incredible amount of love, passion, and the support of a truly wonderful team. However, post-production — particularly sound design — is not free.

That’s why we’ve set up a GoFundMe and we’re reaching out for support.
If you’re a fellow creative, a lover of film, horror, or the arts, any contribution (no matter how small) will help us bring this story fully to life. Every dollar goes directly towards completing the film and giving it the soundscape it deserves and towards festival submission.

We would be eternally grateful for your support.

Thank you so much for supporting independent filmmaking. ✨

Writer’s Statement | SNOW RED 🥀

ANGELA DUNCAN
@angela_ofthesilverscream

“In 2024 the ‘Man vs Bear’ argument went viral. A lot of men couldn’t understand why a woman would choose to be alone in the woods with a bear rather than a man. Yet, for almost everyone who identifies as a woman or non-binary gender, it’s an experience we understand deeply. We’ve watched influencers such as Andrew Tate explode in popularity and create the space for a movement that aims to control and destroy women’s voices, bodies and thoughts. It’s an environment that allows some of the worst perpetrators in history to hold the most power… or become president.

Brother’s Grimm stories known as the dark originals to many Disney films that we grew up loving. I wanted audiences to bring their pre-conceived understandings of the two very different stories, so changes that we make are highlighted and encourage discussion. Snow Red takes a little of the original Brother’s Grimm plot and a little of the nostalgic fairytale and then subverts it into a feminist folk horror. Snow White and Rose Red live a whimsical, magical life, they’re joyful and trusting, but when that peace is disturbed, I want audiences to feel the visceral experience behind female rage and finally understand why we choose bear.”

SNOW RED | 🥀🎬

𝑺𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝑹𝒆𝒅: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒓 & 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 is a reimagining of the classic fairy tale Snow-White and Rose-Red, (German: Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot) first collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 19th century.

In the original tale, two devoted sisters befriend a mysterious bear who later reveals himself to be an enchanted prince. A greedy dwarf is punished, the spell is broken, and the story ends in marriage and harmony.

This is not that story.

This is a feminist folk horror.

Snow Red is steeped in symbolism; sisterhood, feminine rage, the violence of misogyny and the balance of nature.
We have something to say.

Director’s Statement | SNOW RED 🥀

NADIA SIRNINGER RANKIN
@nadia.sirninger.rankin

“I am yet to meet a woman who has entirely escaped mistreatment at the hands of cruel men. The stories are copious, disturbingly familiar and truly a reflection of the cultural epidemic of gendered violence that we often turn away from.

Snow Red reimagines the original Brothers Grimm Snow White and Rose Red through a feminist lens, creating a space where women can feel seen and supported. It blends the macabre severity of the Brothers Grimm with sardonic visuals of the classic Disney fantasy. Cottages, flowers and flowing dresses come with presumptions of simplified femininity and yet the women within Snow Red are never ornamental.
The original Grimm’s tales were violent and unflinching, filled with mutilation and vicious punishment. Snow Red leans into this brutality. It uses violence not for spectacle, but for catharsis. For women who have lived it, fantasy becomes a private space where justice can exist. This film indulges this fantasy. It quenches the vengeful craving to return the flesh of monsters to the earth.

Snow Red resists tired representations of women as vapid rivals or hopeless lovers. Instead, it shows us that we are witnesses, protectors and agents in one another’s survival.”
