Koki's trial has concluded. Koki will be back in court on 15 January 2027 for oral submissions. Court will deliver their verdict on 15 February 2027.

Missed court today and feeling FOMO? We’ve got you!

SATU’s Mel reports on the highlights from Day 1 of Koki’s POFMA trial.

If you'd like to attend the trial, which is open to the public, it will take place at State Courts, Court 24A, from 9.30am to 5pm. Koki will be taking the stand tomorrow.

Then, in the evening, join us for another Picnic Against POFMA, from 6pm to 8pm! Because of the haze, we’ve moved the Picnic to The Arts and Civil Space (CT Hub, 2 Kallang Ave, 03-16), so do let your friends know if they were planning to head down to Hong Lim Park!

At this point, it’s basically become a running joke: spread a rumour or express an *opinion* (we said what we said), and someone will joke that a POFMA order is coming your way.

Except… it’s the farthest thing from being funny.

POFMA has real implications for the information you have access to, what gets restricted online, and how freely we can exchange different views.

From 7-9 October, bring your friends, dabao your dinner, and join us at The Arts and Civil Space for Picnic Against POFMA. Each day, activists Kirsten (@kixes), Calla (@callaggrieved), and Rocky (@fallinrockbeware) will host talks on how POFMA is eroding our freedom of information and expression—and what we can do to claw back these rights.

This morning, @learningfromthemargins, @neosweelin, @limkaysiu and I were all charged for "taking part in a public assembly within a prohibited area" in February 2025 because we posed in group photos outside the State Courts in solidarity with @jwham. It is likely that more people will be charged for this same "offence" soon 🙄

I also received a 12-month conditional warning for one alleged offence and stern warnings for three other alleged offences.

Our first court mention for this Public Order Act charge has been scheduled for 28 September, 10am, Court 4B at the State Courts.

This morning, I was charged under the Public Order Act for “taking part in a public assembly within a prohibited area”. Three friends were also charged today, with more likely to come over the next week or so. Because we took photos together.

In Singapore, friendship often finds its truest expression around a table. We celebrate almost everything with food because meals are more than sustenance—they are rituals of belonging.

A birthday becomes a feast at a favourite restaurant. A promotion calls for chilli crab or omakase. A farewell ends with supper at a hawker centre. Even grief is softened over bowls of porridge and cups of kopi, while reunions inevitably begin with the familiar question, “Have you eaten?”

In a city where time is scarce and life moves relentlessly, sharing a meal is perhaps the greatest gift we can offer one another. Hawker centres, cafés, zi char stalls and fine dining restaurants become stages upon which friendships are renewed, stories retold, laughter amplified and silence made comfortable. The table gathers people across generations, languages and cultures in a way few other spaces can.

Perhaps that is why Singaporeans are forever planning the next meal even before the current one has ended. Food is our common language, our love language, and our social glue. Every gathering, whether grand or spontaneous, becomes another chapter written in flavours and shared plates. What is judicial discretion, and why does it matter? Three sisters of death row prisoners, alongside abolitionist organisers, brought a constitutional challenge to the death penalty to the supreme court.

While the supreme court has since dismissed the case (we'll address this in another post), it is still crucial to understand why it was an important challenge to be filed and for us to continue to contend with.

Last year, three sisters of Singaporeans executed under the mandatory death penalty (MDP) for drugs and four abolitionist activists brought a legal challenge against the MDP regime, asking for it to be declared as unconstitutional.

The case was dismissed the High Court in December 2025 and an appeal was filed shortly after.

Their appeal will be heard this Friday, 10 July at 10am at the Court Of Appeal.
