‘Into The Light’ opens today at our new gallery! Send us a message for details and the catalog

Charlie Yates presents paintings that begin with landscapes captured through his film photography, which he reduces and reframes around moments of illumination by reflection on waters, a break in the clouds or a variegated row of trees amongst it all

Feia is proud to present Blooms and Pairs, Fields and Fairs, a solo exhibition of new works by Charles Hickey at Untitled Houston, 2026. Hickey, a Los Angeles based artist, works at the intersection of painting, sculpture, and design. His practice centers on the 3D pen - a handheld tool that extrudes colored plastic - to create works that merge the immediacy of drawing, the history of painting, and the materiality of sculpture.

In Blooms and Pairs, Fields and Fairs, Hickey primarily mines the Menil Collection, pulling furniture references from The Menil House, paintings from the Rothko Chapel, and deep cuts from the online archive. Hickey’s tripartite process of mining, recreation, and response, serves as a meditation on material and memory, while acting as a playful reimagining of how art lives alongside us. The show gives Untitled Art, Houston visitors a moment of immersion, care, and humor by providing an environment that encourages stillness, attention, and renewed engagement with the act of looking.

We proud to present the illuminating works of Charlie Yates @cjy_studio a Scottish artist who specializes in oil painting. He began his career at The Loretto School and continued his academic career at the Leith School of Art in 2016 and the Glasgow School of Art from 2016 to 2019

He recently relocated to Southern California to pursue his master’s of fine art at the California Institute of Art, which he completed in May 2026

Charlie creates scenes that are deliberately undetermined. His work revolves around atmospheric, nostalgic, and evocative interpretations of cherished personal experiences, celebrating the interconnectedness of our global and natural environments. Swipe to learn more about his process and purpose

Please send us a DM for more information and availability of works through Rhett Baruch Gallery

Yates’ approach to light is rooted in his upbringing in Scotland, where changing weather and diffused illumination continually altered his perception of natural subjects. the Scottish concept of ‘glisk’, or a brief moment of brightness, helped shape his early awareness that perception is never fixed

During his journey to Kyoto, Japan, he was inspired by the simplicity of nature and the philosophy of ‘wabi-sabi,’ an appreciation for imperfection. his process encapsulates pristine moments witnessed in his transition from Scotland to California, aiming to highlight the beauty of fleeting and imperfect moments

Using oil paint and natural earth pigments, Yates builds and scrapes layers with a cloth and tools rather than brushes. therefore, the image gradually emerges, revealing traces of time and change throughout his process. additionally, Yates’ use of natural pigments physically anchor the grittiness of the work in the landscapes it references
