process is everything the making of WATA-TEE after a 10 year plus hiatus from designing and printing tees, finally returning back into this area of the garment industry with WATA-TEE , tees (for now) designed under the FAM umbrella releasing this coming sunday at @fam_l1.2s_l36.4e and of course with good from @fam.table tees are not just tees for me, from the first t-shirt i ever designed in 2002 to learning to screen print in uni back in 2005, to souring tees, designing, mixing inks and printing my first batch of tees that first i first sold in Camden stables market in 2006, i have a longstanding love relationship with tees as a medium and a platform for sharing my work for nairobi , i had to start from scratch, since i am focusing more on the design and less on the printing myself side of the business , i had to find a studio that understood what i was after as well as shared a passion for printing and making started this conversation with the studio based in nairobi 2019 and in 2026 was able to finally start working with them, from the production of the t-shirts in-house to mixing the inks and spending time to know the team better whilst reconnecting with again with my love for screen - printing on textile , and sitting daily with a master screen printer who has been printing since 1989 was the icing on the cake what’s in a name … KUJA TU-TEE on sunday

KUJA TU-TEE you are invited to our official WATA - TEE / TEE release sunday 26th july from 2-7pm at FAM @fam_l1.2s_l36.4e ___________________ it’s been 12 years since i designed, printed or released anything related to tees, but after co-founding FAM and running the space since April, got a few requests for tees with the FAM logo plus needed to design staff uniforms so dipped myself into tee design again WATA - TEE is the name we chose for the brand that falls under the FAM umbrella and also borrowing from the phrase watatii that has a variable of meanings, but used as a nod to telling our own stories and resonating with current local cultural zeitgeist’s it’s feels weird just designing and not being in the studio mixing inks and pulling screens but did what was next based, sourced a studio that designs and makes the tees in-house and worked with a screen printer whose been in the business since 1989 to cook up colours and set up the screens and really enjoyed my time in a screen print studio after almost a decade of not being in one will be posting a series of process images and videos documenting the making of WATA -TEE this wee
