♛. How much are you actually still willing to pay for perfection? I normally end these countdowns with the "Daytona is perfect", but the industry is hitting a breaking point that is hard to ignore. I just finished two analyses by @arieltowatch & @velociphile regarding how luxury brands are sabotaging their own relationships with collectors through aggressive, self-defeating price hikes. We’re starting to see an undeniable shift from luxury watchmaking to luxury marginmaintaining. Nothing beats the tactile click of a manual winder (added bonus: the 1861 is from an era when movements still clicked when they were wound. Modern movements *cough* Rolex *cough* have almost completely smoothed the click out). The click is the positive feedback that reinforces that connection back to the watch. ♛. Hi friends. Here is a low energy Daytona post for your enjoyment this morning. Been on a challenging myself to really learn great lighting techniques using just my iPhone Pro Max before I allow myself to even think about buying a nice camera. I think I have this wristshot angle down. But here’s an interesting twist: I got some really nice shots of my Speedmaster on my wrist resting on a table… but same lighting, angle, etc looks horrible on my Daytona because it is so much more reflective.
