06-07/02/26 - My first ever gig, all the way back in 2021, was at SCALA, with the first band I ever saw live being support act SNAYX, a heavy punk duo, who quickly grabbed my enthusiasm

This morning 5 years later I was back in the same place with the same band, as they played in the main room of Face Down, rising as the main act and growing into a trio with their drummer Lainey

I camped the barrier far earlier than usual as turnout quickly rose, guaranteeing my front and centre spot, with the room being absolutely filled even half an hour before the set, their first of the year

Energising the moshing crowd and previewing banging new tracks with powerful riffs, some of the best I've heard since Nova Twins, it was the best set I could've asked for, making me incredibly proud to see Face Down at the busiest I've ever found it, I relaxed after on the sidelines of the metal room as its band, Fangs Out, whipped the crowd up into a frenzy with walls of death and pits of all shapes, before reuniting with my FD bestie Bradley as he celebrated turning 22, reintroducing me to his friends and kindly gifting us all shots, alcohol that doesn't taste like piss is dangerous folks, it's very easy to say yes to

After a brief tiredness wave faded I decided to get my afterparty wristband, showing up for its resident DJ Sam, resting at the barrier for much of the 2 hours to just embrace the vibe while winding down, but I ended up sidequesting as Brad had visit him for a group photo and I was kidnapped into a dance circle several times

With the DJs on top form, excellent bands, nice company and shots flowing I'd rate it as one of my favourite FDs yet

Once I got home the consequences of it all rammed into me like a freight train, with my bones aching, exhausting hitting and wooziness leaving me a zombified shambles, leaving me playing out the rest of the day like a lazy dog, doing nothing then sighing with exhaustion as if I was working a 9/5 and going back to bed

But I don't regret a thing, I was right at home
