The ocean is Earth’s largest ecosystem. It is home to what we estimate to be over a million different species with ~90% yet to be classified. But did you know it is also home to millions of tons of plastic waste? Approximately 1-2 million tons of plastic make their way into the ocean. What does this mean? Sea creatures strangled, destruction of coral reefs, microplastics being ingested, and so much more. Earth Day isn’t just about what we see online and what’s on land. There is so much happening that we do not see. The loss of ocean ecosystem has a worldwide impact. Overfishing, pollution, trash, all of these contribute to not just the ocean’s wellbeing but the rest of ourselves. This isn’t just a fight that individuals can do, corporations are just as guilty. Simply said, the wasteful lifestyles we choose, from fast fashion down to the single use containers we find convenient, think about how you can help leave a better Earth than you’ve come to find it.

Did you read all of this? Great! Earth day isn’t just today, it’s everyday, how can you be better than you were yesterday? Highly encourage you to do your research and learn about how you can do better.

Hi friends of Instagram! I’m excited to share a passion project I’ve been working on over the last few years — Far Together!

Far Together is a media platform dedicated to sharing stories that encourage exploration, connection, and access to your local bioregion through the voices of those who steward them. The goal of Far Together is to use storytelling as a catalyst to spark curiosity and deepen connections to our local bioregions, uncovering the intricate relationships between people, place, and ecology. The films are designed to be a starting point for viewers, showcasing individuals and organizations making a difference and encouraging us to connect with these efforts directly.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be releasing five videos from the first volume of stories that explore the San Diego bioregion through the lens of food systems. The goal is to continue adding to this first volume while also exploring our local bioregion through different lenses such as urban habitat restoration and more while also providing tangible ways for people to get involved with each organization through an online database.

If you are interested in the project, follow @far.together.media for more :)
