Belonging looks different for everyone 💚

It can be found in the people around us, the communities we’re part of, the places we feel at home, or simply in knowing we’re seen, valued and supported.

This week, we asked some of our speakers to share what has contributed to their own sense of belonging.

As Mental Health Awareness Week wraps up, let’s remember that looking after our mental health doesn’t stop here.

Let’s keep checking in, making time for connection and creating spaces where everyone feels they belong.

"She saw something in me that at the time I couldn't see in myself."

Before Ben Purua became the man he is today, he was carrying shame from his past. The person who changed that was his wife, @nik_farmupnz - she kept reminding him of what he had to offer, until he believed it himself.

"Sometimes all it takes is one person to see potential in you, and keep reminding you until you finally see it for yourself."

Listen up Northland when the cupboards are getting empty and the tank is running low, those everyday costs matter.

Yesterday Labour launched its 2026 campaign with the cost of living at the centre of its announcements.

So when you hear me talking about getting costs down, here’s what Labour is proposing:

📍Three free GP visits a year through the Medicard, alongside free prescriptions.

📍Changes aimed at getting fairer supermarket prices, including opening up wholesale supply to more competition and making price gouging illegal.

📍SolarSaver, which would allow households to install solar with no upfront payment through Government-backed, low-interest finance, with additional support for some low- and middle-income households.

📍And yesterday Labour announced it would cut eligible student loan balances by 10%, with balances of $2,000 or less wiped completely. Different eligibility rules would apply depending on when people completed their study and how long they remain in New Zealand.

📍Labour also says it would freeze fuel tax for three years.

That’s what I mean when I talk about the cost of living: the supermarket shop, filling the car, seeing the doctor, paying the power bill and the financial pressure young people carry after study.

Election Day is 7 November.

4️⃣0️⃣ days to go.
