Some gentle prep 😳 for my interview with the amazing author and art historian @jamesfox283 at Farnham Town Hall on Friday 9th October, a pop-up event for the @farnhamlitfest

We’ll be diving deep into his superb book, CRAFTLAND - a moving homage to a multitude of endangered, sometimes semi-covert, and always fascinating crafts and craftspeople that constitute the social, industrial and emotional fabric of the British Isles. Includes wheels bursting into flame, a bell being ritualistically blessed by a vicar while still molten metal, the high-jeopardy of precision watch-making and many, many instances of the sublimely unpredictable beauty of working with materials untameable by machine.

Come!

Earlier in the year I enjoyed a panel event "When is crime cosy?" featuring Greg Mosse, Tom Hindle and Jamie West.
Each was asked that question and all answers differed to a degree.
There is no set definition. It's a spectrum, encompassing tropes I've outlined in previous posts.

Having now read books by all three authors I've had fun placing them on my version of the spectrum.

Mosse's Maisie Cooper series is at the 'hot chocolate, highest TOG duvet' end of cosy.

West's Bertie Carroll mystery is the 'fur coat and martini in the stalls at the theatre' variety.

And Hindle's Death in the Arctic is an 'Aperol beside a campfire' kind of cosy.

Which two emojis would you assign to your favourite cosy crime novels? And why?

Friends! 🖤

We have a very special release today - our live show recorded last month about Surrey's history and folklore as part of @farnhamlitfest!

We're bringing warring tribes, spooky ghost horses that want to drown you, witches with very special cauldrons, and Eleanor's live performance of The Tale of Blanche Heriot!

Thank you to @farnhamfolkloresociety for joining the fun, and find the story in print in our book Three Ravens Folk Tales published by the wonderful @thpfolklore!

Listen wherever you get your podcasts or stream on our website right now!

a few weeks ago, i volunteered for @farnhamlitfest at their ghost story writing workshop lead by the fabulous
sarah starbuck and ted gooda🙌 i was then lucky enough to be able to join in with the workshop! ghost stories are really out of my comfort zone but i loved generating ideas and being part of discussions. turned my brief idea into a silly poem - enjoy the beginnings of a ghostly poem based on this haunting pier🌊👻

I had a great time interviewing the writer, broadcaster and social media star @mrstevenmoore at @farnhamlitfest last night. What a raconteur! He’s known as ‘the David Attenborough of teacups’ and to say he’s filled with fascinating stories is an understatement. His new book, The Stuff of History, is enormous fun. #literaryfestival #writersofinstagram #history #antiques #tea

Having my words brought to life by a professional actor and heard by others - something I never thought would happen. I’m so grateful to @farnhamliteraryfestival and @sallyannmelia for championing writing and flash fiction. Wonderful to be surrounded by fellow writers and prize winners. Thank you to all who came. ❤️
