Rewire your brain to focus on the important stuff.

The depressing thing about this is that you are being played by people that you think have your best interests at heart. However, they are managed by their - generally male - publishers serving their advertisers and propieters’ agenda. I’m not pouring shade on editorial teams. This is not about individuals. I know them, I love them and their work. It’s about the content that is deemed “women’s interest”.

Back in the day I was part of a team of three founding women editors who launched a national feminist magazine called Scarlet. So I understand the pressures of the publishing world and how you have to tread very carefully so as not to scare the advertisers.

Don’t despair! The beauty of this knowledge is that YOU are in control of what experiences YOU feed your brain. Your availability for neuro-plasticity is down to YOU from now on - which is pretty radical - isn’t it?

Question for you…are some magazines aimed at women an elevating experience, do they help us to grow? Or do they groom us to be good daughters of the patriarchy/ exploitative capitalism/ unjust and toxic systems? I’m genuinely interested. I grew up on women’s magazine. I love the aspirational lifestyle they sell and the new things they bring to our attention but since the pandemic… I roll my eyes at the inanity we are being peddled - especially now in the midst of a scary global far right shift, to which we need to pay attention.

They are all great distractions. For a quarter of my life, I worked in fashion and LOVE ideas, concepts, well crafted clothes and art…I’m not anti that, in fact it’s my raison d'être BUT…I’m also aware of the amount of useless info pumped out at us and the mixed and contradictory messages ( you can have it all / you can’t have it all).

I also realise that I’m no longer the target market now that I’m an arsey middle aged woman.*

Please discuss. I’m genuinely interested in your opinion.👇🏾

PLEASE SHARE THIS ANYWHERE YOU CAN!!!! This show means so much to me, and many others.. If you guys think Jamie was good in Stranger Things, you need to watch “Will” because his role in “Will” will blow you away, he’s an outstanding actor and gave his best performance in “Will” (my opinion) Please help us Bring Back “Will”!!! I love everything about this show, not just Jamie. all the actors/actresses give me so much comfort and this show immediately became my favorite show alongside Stranger Things. I love absolutely everyone who worked on this show, and i appreciate every single one of them. i can’t put into words how many times i’ve cried because of this show and how we didn’t get a second season, so much so that i messaged Craig and told him i will pay all of my life savings for the funding of the show. Craig Pearce, the sweetheart that he is, told me to not spend money on the show and that i should keep it so i could be successful in life.. but i mean it when i say i will pay all my life savings for a second season. i mean every word of that. EVERYONE who worked on this show instantly became my favorite people and i have so much respect and love for them and i always will. please help us in any way that you can!!! IT’S IMPORTANT!!! WE NEED THIS SHOW BACK!!! the link to the petition is in my bio, please sign it!!!#BringBackWill

Something extraordinary just happened… A few years ago I wrote and produced Will - a 10 part TV show about young William Shakespeare - made with the brilliant @shekharkapur for @tntdrama It starred @lauriedavidson.92 as Will Shakespeare, @olivia_dejonge as Alice Burbage and @bowerjamie as Christopher Marlowe and @mattias_inwood as Richard Burbage. A few weeks ago I started getting DMs DEMANDING a second season of Will! Fans of @bowerjamie’s brilliant work in Stranger Things S4 had begun to discover Will. Their passion was (and is) incredible. The DM’s kept coming, emphasising that as much they adore the infinitely adorable @bowerjamie they also love EVERYTHING about Will. All the actors, writers, directors, cinematographers, sets, costumes, makeup etc. So much so that the amazing @jamiebowersasstattoo @jamiebowertherapy and @jamiebowerserenity made a petition to bring back Will for a 2nd season! Link is in bio please sign and share. It’s as important to share as it is to sign. If each of us enthuses 10 people and each of those another 10 and so on, that is the way we can grow and perhaps get a season 2. I want to finish by giving a huge shout out to absolutely everyone who worked on Will ❤️ but especially my wonderfully talented team of writers @rambopolitan @corinnemarrinan @marksteilen @byrdie5522 I’m going to be posting more behind the scenes photos and fun stuff about Will in the coming weeks, so hit me up in comments if there’s anything you’d like to see or talk about concerning Will, the writing or production process, or anything about Shakespeare in general. Thanks everyone - post and share - and remember: ’The Play’s the Thing!’ #shakespeare #williamshakespeare #tvshow #theglobetheatre #london

Today I’ve launched a Substack! Gaaah! As many of you know, being in front of the camera makes me want to crumble. It takes a whole lot of convincing from @markalexrob and @nickmarshall65 to get me in front of the camera. That won’t change. I’ll still be trembling in my boots on those occasions. The reality is, I don’t like to give advice on social media. Every human is unique. Lifestyles differ. Product usage differs. Skin issues completely differ. To give a blanket statement on social media feels really irresponsible to me. I’ve started this @substackinc to be able to write about skin in a way that you might find similarities to your skin and your lifestyle. Stories, if you will, that you might see yourself in. From that you can extrapolate what you need. Some of the Substack will be free to everyone, and some won’t. I’ll be doing a weekly Q&A for paid subscribers. Why do I not give it all away for free? A couple of reasons but mostly because what I’ve found on social media is that when I do a “live” on my own, or with someone, or am interviewed for a podcast…or Mark has put me in front of the camera….within days I’ll see insta “skin experts” regurgitating my words almost exactly. I’ve worked damn hard to educate myself. I work hard every day to help clients. It sends me over the edge when I see this happen. Hijacking content is not ok. So I’m making a little community. Don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of good stuff for free. But the nitty gritty is for paid subscription. It will ebb and flow until we all find that sweet spot. I hope you’ll join me on this journey. Wash Your Effing Sheets is the phrase that comes out of my mouth most often. Except maybe “feck me life”…I love that one also. Come join me. Head over to Substack to subscribe. @julesfjm is a G for teaching me the little things in life….. ie: LINK IN BIO!!! ❤️

⚠️ UK Nationality and Borders Act 2022 ⛔️

Suspicious when government dictates unquestionable power & outsources duties abroad. Is this individualistic power hungry laziness sold as ‘safety & protection’ to the people?

—> The ‘Act’

Immigration, asylum & modern slavery response. Addresses British overseas territories citizenship, registration of stateless citizens. Introduces "designated places"/"offshore" asylum hubs for refugee apps & migrant asylum claims, ?in European/African country. Gov’s new powers limit those considered a victim of modern slavery, with clauses limiting support where survivors haven’t complied with disclosure deadlines of their abuse.

Incl British Overseas Territories Citizenship, citizenship of children of fathers who aren’t husband of their mothers, discretionary adult registration routes, naturalisation for Windrush victims, registration of stateless children etc. Effectively criminalises asylum seekers, from "unsanctioned"/"irregular" routes = disqualifies refugees status. REMOVE British citizenship from dual nationals WITHOUT NOTICE.

Support provision for modern slavery survivors, taking into account a victims' criminal history, & the time it takes them to provide evidence, before the victim is provided with safe housing, counselling, or a caseworker.

—> What can we do?

- stimulate & propagate awareness
- be open to & open up discussion
- encourage influencers to join, raise and lead discussions
- never lose faith in humanity & the power of unity
- increase compassion & unity
- serve those that need help the most
- be the change & lead by example
- start the appeal process online —> local MP and UK gov petitions

—> Remember:

“There are few things more powerful than people united” @vironikawilde

“The power of people is much stronger than the people in power” @waelghonim
