I was humbled, grateful, tongue tied and misty eyed this last Saturday when the kind folks at the Folk Alliance Far West @folk_alliance @farwestfolk honored me with The Best Of The West Lifetime Achievement Award at their convention in Portland, Oregon.

Receiving an award like this never fails to stun me. I’ve always considered myself a denizen of the outskirts of the music business (I think a lot of artists who play folk or roots music, quiet or loud, may feel the same) so it’s always inspiring to know that someone out there is listening. It’s a nice kick in the pants to keep on doing what I’ve been doing.

For me, my songs have always dictated my career not the other way around as is normal in the music racket. If I feel like writing a blues one day and a folk ballad the next, that’s what I write. If I don’t feel like writing anything, then I don’t write. Not a roadmap to big time success but, thanks to my loyal fans and musician friends plus my overworked road crews and patient business people around me, I’ve somehow managed to survive doing what I do. I honestly cannot thank the Folk Alliance Far West enough for this incredible acknowledgement.

Speaking of “patient business people”, in this photo I’m crowning my longtime soulful, tough, kind and, yeah, very patient manager, Nancy Sefton @nancy_sefton with the Folk Alliance award backstage in Portland. She deserves it as much as I do.

✨ HUGE NEWS! 🇺🇦 🎶 Мій музичний альбом «Княгиня» — на шляху до GRAMMY! 🔥

I’m honored to share that my album Knyahynia is being presented for consideration in the Best Traditional Folk Album category for the 69th Annual GRAMMY Awards®.

Like all my previous albums, Knyahynia was created with a deep love for Ukrainian traditional music. ❤️ For me, it’s more than a collection of songs. It carries our history, our voices, our traditions, and my own original compositions, all coming together in one musical journey.

I want Ukrainian songs to be heard far beyond Ukraine — discovered, enjoyed, and sung by people around the world. When you put so much love into what you do, moments like this remind you why it all matters. 🎶

A huge thank-you to Michael Paul Caruso, the album’s producer and musician, for helping bring this project to life; to @magnetic_west_music , the label behind the album; to Folk Alliance International @folk_alliance ; and to everyone who listens to, supports, and helps share Ukrainian music with the world!

🇺🇦 Ukrainian traditional music is breathtaking in its beauty, rich in history, and extraordinary in its intricate polyphony and distinctive vocal traditions. It deserves to be heard, discovered, and celebrated around the world. May these ancient songs continue to find new voices and touch hearts across generations! 💙💛

The one and only @auntmamastage3 is in the house at @farwestfolk. ❤️ If you don't know this woman, as the long-time host of "Sunday Folks" on @kbcs not only does she play our music, she champions musicians, hosts songwriters in performance, is a gifted storyteller and a fierce advocate for justice and democracy.

In other words, one helluva of a woman. ❤️✨🎸
