ORLAS LIVE AT NATIONAL SAWDUST WITH SUPPORT FROM THE FASCINATING CHIMERA PROJECT // THIS WEEK FRIDAY // JULY 17

Orlas draws its name from the Portuguese word for ‘shores’ or ‘coasts.’ Crafted by the dynamic collaboration of Victor Chicri and Vic Delnur, a father-and-son musical journey unfolds. This fusion encompasses samba-jazz, bossa nova, disco-funk, and more, resulting in a captivating and genre-defying musical experience.

Orlas’ debut LP ‘Viver o Mar’ consists of 11 tracks, showcasing their diverse musical influences. It also features an eight-piece orchestra that adds depth and richness to the compositions. ‘Alagoas’, ‘Sabor De Você’ and title track ‘Viver O Mar’ perfectly capture the essence of this record. The soulful vocals of Luciane Dom on ‘Um Par’ and Gabi Delnur on ‘Imensidão’ contribute to the album’s overall captivating sound.

In their live performances, they are joined by Sarah Maciel and Laura Pereira on vocals, Felipe dos Santos (bass, percussion), Eric Maciel (electric guitar) and Thiago Dom (drums).

Shall we listen to some records together? how’s tonight at 7? tune in :: wgxc 90.7fm / wavefarm dot org or the wavefarm app

A little reintroduction to my radio show… 𝑨 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑫𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎 is my open diary of musical fixations. music lives in constant conversation in my head with what I am reading/seeing/doing and the show reflects these connections. I like to curate around a feeling in time as well as worlds that open up around particular genres and instruments. I sometimes weave in poetry or spoken word, too

Pls bear with me… music {playing, listening, receiving, sharing} is my love language. or at least this was my thinking when I tuned out of computer-generated music recs around 5 years ago. I got a little bored of the one-sided conversation with the streaming algorithms.* (do you feel it too?) I started listening to radio again and more thoughtfully exchanging music with friends

I became inspired by seeing friends DJ and by listening to radio DJs who gave real personality to their shows in one way or another and grounded them in a time and place (terroir if you will) — in particular Flo Dill, Launette, Coco Maria, and my bestie @sssimisea . I also found myself being more often challenged by what I was listening to, which is cool too

@weymoso came across + encouraged me to submit to the WGXC programmer open call in early 2025, and I thought, sounds fun why not? so now here we are, and I find myself having a great time digging for/pondering music for the show throughout the month, and hearing what resonates

so0oo please join me as I share my musical soup with you on the Radio for Open Ears, every 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 7pm, or afterwards in perpetuity on mixcloud

Here's what you heard if you tuned in this morning to What The Flock? on @kuzu929. I promise the metadata wasn't stuck this morning, we just had several long tracks, hence only 10 in this week's hour.

The show in two weeks will mark one year of What The Flock? on the air! I've been working on a 2 hour special to mark the occasion for 6ish weeks now. If I get everything done, this probably would mean an 8am start, assuming the station approves.

The show in two weeks is also the closest episode to the third anniversary of starting HRT, so I'm going to riff on becoming. The songs are kind of representative of my journey through the process and how my perspectives have shifted along the way through the highs and lows. There are a lot of my favorite artists (but not *all* of them, that would be nearly impossible) and a fair amount of fresh faces in the tracklist in the way I do. Keep a lookout for more info in about a week just so you know when the show starts and everything! Love you! 💙

Getting ready for tour with @adeline.hotel in a brief quiet moment at our house. Looking forward to all of these beautiful shows with all of these beautiful people. (P.S. the Windham show is basically the "Portland" show. Hmu for the address, going to be incredibly sweet.) See yous out there

Had an unofficial Hello America writers week (or like a week and a half) with a few of our finest on an island off the coast of Brazil just a few days ago.

Big thanks to @marinacaamano and @casanailhaart

Day seven (I think) of book edits. Yesterday the whole group of us took a boat around the island to hang out at a small coastal village I'm not remembering the name of. (Maybe it was Bonete.) The surf was very big and it got wilder the closer we got to the village. We swam in the booming sea and in the surprisingly cold river and ate fried yuca dipped in soupy beans. The trip back we rose up over the swells in our very small boat and dropped back down with a great, thrilling CLAP each time. Hell of a ride. Exciting and good in a fundamental, primal, spice-of-life way. Not for the faint of heart.

Today we slept in a little, went to town for groceries, and swam in the dark. I worked in the morning and just now. Not as productive as days prior but still moving steadily onward. Very confident I'll finish these edits before we leave. It's a good group here. Elizabeth, Nate, Sara, Alex, Marina, three languages, seven cats in the house. Rain most nights. Parrots in the trees. Wild Horse Shit will be a much better book because of this, and I imagine these good days will wind up in another book because most of these things do. Now dinner.
