i moved to LA in 2019 with an uncharacteristic sort of blind faith that i’d find a job when i got here. my only must-have was that i enjoy the people i work with, so i hoped for the best and found it at @radfurniture.

i never would have known to hope for this job or this group of people; to have found myself here by chance is proof that the best things in life are unplanned. truthfully, i could have worked just about any job with this team and had a good time doing it.

i feel lucky to have stumbled into it, and to know what it feels like to care as much as i do about this small corner of the world we’ve occupied. the people in RAD’s periphery and the LA design community are the reason i tell friends that LA has been so welcoming; i actually think i’ve just been very lucky.

tomorrow’s my last day, and i have a lot of feelings to sort through. the most predominant of them are excitement for what’s next and immeasurable gratitude, the cocktail of which is just tears.

thanks for making me a part of it, @radfurniture. ❤️

my favorite scene from our last few photo shoots @radfurniture, followed by all the steps that got us there — digging through saved folders to choose our new color palette, crowdsourcing color names from the clowns i work with, and fittingly, using our own things and homes to style our furniture the way we’d use it ourselves, which is oddly hard to do. thankful to be on a team of creative, many-hat-wearing people, including that can opener pinch-hitting as a hammer, @fatfoxx, and @r_c_h_. last and most beautiful shot by @tycole.

A week ago today I entered a new decade with one of my favorite ladies, a little bit of snow and all my 4 legged companions (thank you never ending home renovations). 40 seemed so old when I was younger, but I gotta say, my many friends who are much much much older than me 😘 sure make this decade seem like a lotta fun. Here’s to the 1st of another 10.

For a second I wanted to tell him to slow down. He’s so small and he was going so fast. I didn’t want him to fall and hurt himself. I was thinking, I could protect him if only I took away the risk.
🎤
We all do this, of course with kids it’s a given at some point, but we do it with ourselves. The fear of the unknown makes us prepare for the worst. It also makes us hesitate before taking a risk. As I sit here with 7 beautiful ladies, encouraging them to take a chance and jump into creating the lives they want, I laugh.
🙌🏼
At some point in our life we try to avoid as much risk as possible. We stiffen up and stay away from the adventure of it all. We “protect” ourselves from failure and pain by not truly being able to enjoy every aspect of the life we are living.
☀️
Today (this my sound silly) my risk was sitting in the sun for over an hour. Even then, I put on sunscreen from head to toe, adding a layer of protection to avoid any discomfort. Knowing that the warmth of the sun on my skin would make my experience today would be lighter and more relaxed. I took the risk. I forced myself to do something I haven’t done in years.

We need to play more. We need to throw caution to the wind and just let go, more. Kids remind us of this as their curious little minds soak up everything around them. Learning is fun and huge accomplishments are made everyday and shared with family and friends.
☎️
Parents call their family or send videos of the first time a kid says a word, takes a step, rides a bike. Adults become more excited about tiny things and in turn it becomes more fun to do.
🎨
Play sparks creativity and creativity brings life into the most mundane things. Seriously folks, I’m telling you we need to play more. If you don’t know where to start, then on your favorite song and dance. By yourself or with others but just do it. Bonus points if you send me a video of how you added some play or silliness into your day!

What makes your weekend memorable? I really want to know.
🏖
As we walked to the beach on this Sunday morning, I saw so much joy doing the simplest of things. We were walking, together as a family. Bode was chillin in the wagon, Charlotte was leading the way to the beach.
It was perfect. It was another day to anyone else. But these are the days that bring joy into our lives. Where we get to just BE and LIVE and enjoy the sunshine and sand between our toes.
