During Congressional Black Caucus Week in Washington, DC, the messages from the stage at Them2Us’ Leaders of the South: The Black & Brown Affair were powerful. Calls to vote rang through the room, and the commitment to elevating the Black community and strengthening democracy was on full display. Thank you to Fatima Heyward, Mayor Nathan G. Alexander III, J.D., Isaiah Martin, and Dr. Kenneth McCants-Pearsall for sharing your voices. And thank you to everyone who came together for the conversation. Bridge and Build. #Them2Us #LeadersOfTheSouth #BlackAndBrownAffair #cbcweek

Last month, I had the honor of attending the 5th Anniversary Front Runner New Jersey 30 Under 40 Gala, alongside some of the most influential voices in South Jersey. Being recognized as part of the Class of 2025 was a distinct honor. Sitting in a room filled with dedicated public servants, entrepreneurs, change makers, elected officials — many of whom I’m proud to call close friends — and hearing New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Dale Caldwell, thank us for our work and acknowledge the impact we have in our respective fields, reminded me exactly why we do this work. We don’t excel in our chosen field for recognition; we do it to make a difference. Every honoree that evening has left a real, lasting impact on their community, the people they serve and the people they inspire to follow in their footsteps. Congratulations to all of my fellow honorees and friends who were recognized, and thank you to Front Runner NJ and Clyde Hughes for his continued commitment to uplifting and celebrating Black and Brown voices in South Jersey.

Appreciation Post: Please join us in showing our appreciation for Fatima Heyward. Fatima serves on the NJLC Board of Directors and is our Capstone Chair. To complete our NJLC Academy, fellows are required to present a Capstone at the conclusion of the six month program. During the Class of 2026 Academy, Fatima provided guidance, mentorship, and feedback so that our fellows were prepared as they designed and presented their Capstones. We are extremely grateful for the time and care Fatima brings to NJLC. Thank you, Fatima! @fatima.heyward @fatimaforyda
