About the photographer

Fatma Gök Salt is a photographer who believes that a photograph is shaped not by the camera, but by the person behind it. Her approach is rooted in curiosity and multidisciplinary thinking, drawing inspiration from art, travel, reading and continuous learning. For her, photography is less about equipment and more about how we observe, think and interpret the world around us.

Gear: Canon 6D Mark II · 16–35mm f/2.8 · 24–70mm f/2.8 · 70–200mm f/2.8 · 50mm & 85mm prime lenses.

Two chairs don’t always face
the same direction of longing.

One sister. One sister.

She’s here, dress the color of deep water,
eyes down on the dog at her feet,
fully inside this room, this afternoon, this floor.

Her sister is elsewhere already, same chair, same light, but her gaze has slipped past the window, somewhere the frame can’t follow.

The photographer called this image “Hemdem”.
A word for a companion so close
you share the same breath without noticing.
She met these two wandering Havana’s streets, was invited into their home,
and they insisted on calling her Linda,
laughing, never explaining why.

Her hands were shaking when she pressed the shutter. She has said she felt, for a moment,
like she’d stepped inside a painting
instead of taking one.

Some rooms hold two women together
by nothing more than the light that happened to fall through that door that day.

Save this if you’ve ever caught someone
mid-daydream in a room full of people,
and tag your own “Hemdem”, the one you’d share a breath with without asking.
