🎃 Your major called… and it picked your Halloween costume. 👀
Still looking for a Halloween costume? Swipe through to discover your major’s Halloween alter ego! 👻
From zombie architects to literary legends, we gave some of our Arts & Letters majors a little twist. 🧟📚🎭
Which costume matches your major? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️

Disclaimer: These costume ideas are just for fun and are not meant to represent actual students or majors. A person wearing a blue hard hat and holding rolled-up papers is dressed as a "Zombie Architect." The costume package, labeled "Spirit," claims to include "1 hard hat," "3 hours of sleep (if lucky)," and "Permanent midterm-week exhaustion," and humorously suggests it is suited for those "Running on coffee & AutoCAD." The background is orange with red accents, and it states "ADULT Size Costume" at the bottom.

Transforming Porosity: Simmons Hall - Minimal Condition
How can changes in a building’s porosity reshape the relationship between light, air, and inhabitation?

The assignment asked that we exchange X-ray flipbooks of buildings with our classmates. I received Simmons Hall by Steven Holl, using my classmate’s natural-condition flipbook as the starting point to develop two additional conditions through CT scan and thermal gradient representations: extreme and minimal.

The natural condition examines Simmons Hall’s sponge-like concept, tracing its “lungs”, porous spaces that bring light and air from the roof down through the building. Highlighted in red, these pathways became the focus of my transformations.

The extreme condition expands and distorts these lungs, allowing the porous pathways to become more dominant and challenge the building’s function as a dormitory. The minimal condition compresses them, exploring what happens when dormitory space takes priority over the building’s main pathways for light and air.

Inspired by D’Arcy Thompson’s fish transformation grids, where grid deformations transform one fish’s shape into another, I applied this logic to the building’s porosity. Each transformation proposes a different spatial configuration and a new potential relationship among solid, void, light, air, and living space.
