POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Exactly 3 weeks ago, my sister was called to the largest Bar in Africa... and I still get emotional thinking about it. 🥹⚖️🤍

Behind every gown, every smile, and every "Congratulations" is a story of resilience, late nights, sacrifices, answered prayers, and the people who never stopped believing.

Watching this moment unfold reminded me that some victories aren't just personal, they belong to everyone who prayed, supported, encouraged, and stood by you along the way.

Congratulations again, Sunshine. Watching you walk into this new chapter was one of the greatest privileges of my life. I'm so proud of the woman you've become, and I can't wait to see all the lives you'll touch.

Thank you so much Pst @godswilloyor and @gracee_idowu for this Sound. Indeed, Abba is a Covenant Keeping God.

This is Episode 4 of Abuja Diaries, the moment we've all been waiting for. 🥂

P.S. The celebration doesn't end here... the reception vlog is next, and trust me, you don't want to miss it. 👀🤍

📝 BOOK REVIEW
TITLE - TOMORROW I BECOME A WOMAN
AUTHOR - AIWANOSE ODAFEN
PUBLISHER - Scribner, 2022
RATING - 8/10

Set in Lagos, Nigeria, between the 1970s and early 2000s—post-Nigerian Civil War—this book follows the life of Obianuju Nwaike, a young Igbo woman, as she navigates love, marriage, family, and friendships. The author vividly portrays the struggles of the average woman in this part of the world, highlighting the battles she must fight to survive and hold her head high in a society that often works against her.

The novel also examines how societal structures are designed to favor men and suppress women who dare to challenge the norm. Whether within the family, the village, or even the church, women are expected to endure their suffering in silence. When Adaugo flees to Uju’s house after being beaten by her cheating husband, both women are summoned by the village elders, reinforcing the notion that women should remain subservient. We have people like Deacon Rapuokwu who counsels wives to pray away the devil from their homes and shun problems with their husbands.
Society employs religion as a tool to silence women and ensure they endure abusive marriages. Conferences and prayer meetings are set up almost everyday of the week for women to pray for their cheating and abusive husbands to change and turn a new leaf. Whereas, no such programmes are organized for these men.

Overall, Tomorrow, I Become a Woman is not only an interesting and educative read but a thought provoking one. It challenges readers to question societal norms that, in many ways, perpetuate abuse and oppression. Mama, for instance, was once a victim of an abusive marriage. Over time, she became part of the very system that broke her, compelling her daughter to endure the same fate. The book highlights a powerful message: silence in the face of injustice makes one complicit. When we do not speak up against abuse or societal ills, we become part of a cycle and system that aids abuse.
