Steam Power rides again!

Laurens Joensen: zang, gitaar
Fay Lovsky: zang, basgitaar
Janos Koolen: zang, mandoline, banjo

i don’t know how to say this without yelling!! 🥹❤️🎄

my original holiday song “california christmas” was named one of the TOP 5 dutch christmas songs of the past 70 years (!!) in the new issue of VARA-gids that came out today 😭🇳🇱✍🏻

it ended up number 4 with some CLASSICS i grew up with, and i’m so happy that the TRUE winner of this award is someone i look up to and respect as the original dutch queen of christmas: @faylovsky ❄️☃️

what the @nporadio2 DJs had to say about it:

Judy Blank – California Christmas (2022)

A song this recent already feeling timeless is pretty rare, especially for a Christmas song. Judy wrote “California Christmas” with one clear goal in mind. It had to be good enough to sit comfortably as track thirteen on a Beach Boys Christmas record. According to music journalist Tim Op het Broek, she pulled it off. “Judy is seriously underrated here, and this song would fit right in with the Beach Boys.” Fellow tastemaker Leo Blokhuis agrees. “Christmas and love drama are always a winning combo. Add long distance lovers and a nostalgic melody that sounds like a classic, and you have something really special.” Emmely de Wilt adds, “Who wouldn’t want to spend Christmas on a surfboard on the West Coast, wearing a Santa hat?”

These days, Judy lives in Texas. “I’m actually kind of scared of the ocean, so I’ve never surfed,” she laughs over the phone. “But I spent Christmas in California last year, and it was exactly how I imagined it. Christmas Eve at the beach, having a picnic. It was warm and perfect. Texas, on the other hand, gets just as cold as the Netherlands.” Every winter, she receives videos from fans all over the world, from San Francisco to Indonesia, showing the song playing at ice skating rinks and town squares.

thank you @nporadio2 & @vara_gids, especially @guuzbourg, @emmelydewilt, @blokhuisleo & @timophetbroek 🎁
