Climate change and its attendant crises are fundamentally reshaping how we design, inhabit and sustain our built environment and its living landscapes. In a planetary polycrisis — where ecological, social and infrastructural risks are deeply interconnected — traditional disciplinary approaches prove insufficient. Design must work across scales and integrate systems. Using the University at Buffalo’s South Campus as a test site, our exhibit at Aedes Architecture Forum “Designing for Resilience” presents the work of seven international design teams. Together, they envision and visualize future scenarios for the time horizons of 2050 and 2080, based on a set of assumptions about our world. By focusing on South Campus as a forward-looking academic environment, the project develops strategies that are broadly applicable to design disciplines and professions, inviting viewers to engage with, evolve and extend these approaches elsewhere. Special thanks to our panel, who provided a Gallery Talk, “Campus as Test Site” the evening of the exhibition opening: - Sanne van der Burgh, Associate Director, Head of MVRDV NEXT, Rotterdam - Nina-Marie Lister, Professor, School of Urban and Regional Planning, Toronto Metropolitan University - Jason Sowell, Associate Professor of Architecture - Frank Barkow, Partner, Barkow Leibinger, Berlin - Maia Peck, Clinical Assistant Professor of Architecture and Director of Exhibitions - Moderator: Julia Czerniak, Dean and Professor Learn more about this exhibit, now open through May 6, at the link in our bio!    Photos: Erik-Jan Ouwerkerk Curated by Maia Peck + Julia Czerniak #UBuffalo #UBuffaloArchPlan #DesigningForResilience

Excited to announce our exhibition opening at @aedesberlin, on March 27th, “Designing for Resilience — Prototyping Campus Futures.” About the exhibit: Climate change and its attendant crises are fundamentally reshaping how we design, inhabit and sustain our built environment and its living landscapes. In a planetary polycrisis – where ecological, social and infrastructural risks are deeply interconnected – traditional disciplinary approaches prove insufficient. Design must work across scales and integrate systems. Using the University at Buffalo’s South Campus as a test site, Designing for Resilience presents the work of seven international design teams. Prior to the opening is a panel discussion, led by Dean Julia Czerniak, with: - Frank Barkow, Partner, @barkowleibinger, Berlin - Nina-Marie Lister, Professor, School of Urban and Regional Planning, @torontomet / Director, @ecodesignlabtmu / Principal, @plandform - Jason Sowell, Associate Professor of Architecture, UB - Sanne Van Der Burgh, Associate Director / Head of @mvrdv NEXT / Architect - Maia Peck, Clinical Assistant Professor of Architecture and Director of Exhibitions, UB Learn more and RSVP at the link in our bio! 69. Rainer Matthias Holm-Hadulla, Heidelberg Moderation: Ania Corcilius, Stuttgart

Clémence Joséphine Touzet is a French architect and designer. She has distinguished herself through her work on innovative and ecological materials, as well as her research on bioregionalism. One of her major accomplishments was the creation of a world-unique material called VEGETAL GLASS a 100% bio-sourced material, hot compostable, and entirely manufactured in France. She won the first prize of the Métiers d'arts de France (Arts and Crafts) in 2024 for her first lamp #10 Normandy. Bio: After completing her studies, Clémence Joséphine began her career in 2010 in Berlin, Germany, working at some of the country's most prestigious architecture firms, including Hascher Jehle Architektur and Barkow Leibinger Architekten. During her time in these firms, she specialized in cutting-edge construction techniques and expanded her knowledge of eco-friendly building materials. Over her twelve years in Berlin, until 2022, she deepened her research into sustainable materials, exploring the use of algae and oysters in construction and design processes, with a focus on environmental responsibility. In 2020, Clémence Joséphine founded the brand CENSIS RUBLISS, dedicated to design, lighting, tableware, and jewelry, all developed from her research on innovative materials. This groundbreaking material has positioned Clémence Joséphine as a pioneer in the use of ecological materials within the fields of design and architecture. Her brand reflects her commitment to sustainability, and she is involved in both the design and production of her creations, which are crafted in her workshops located in La Tremblade, Charente-Maritime, at the heart of the Marennes-Oléron basin. ENG In the search for shade, @barkowleibinger proposed an emergency solution that will use tensegrity to generate a temporary structure. We recover their project now that the call for the design of the first permanent Urban Climate Island of Logroño is open until 29 November. Linear elements are suspended in space floating weightlessly, tensioned by steel cables or rope. Seemingly defying gravity, these structures are configurable, lightweight and in equilibrium. The intention of this proposal is to consider these structures as architecture rather than sculpture as they have been imagined and built historically. By incorporating cladding/skin, circulation and scale, these structures add architectural elements that make them more spatial, programmed and flexible. They aim to provide a sustainable prototype for a public space with low resource consumption, using sustainable and contemporary materials such as wood, natural fibres and recycled materials.
