What does it really mean to be connected if calls keep dropping, data disappears without clear explanations, or complaints go unresolved?

These are the questions Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF)’ Executive Director @ndukweokafo , is addressing as she presents the lead paper, “𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆,” at the 95th Telecom Consumer Parliament, organised by the @ngcomcommission (NCC).

As the conversation unfolds, one message stands out:

“𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱.”

With Nigeria’s digital economy growing, the focus must go beyond the number of subscriptions to the quality of service consumers receive, the transparency of charges, and their ability to seek redress when things go wrong.

As Prof. Ndukwe-Okafor emphasises:

“We will be judged by how many avoidable failures we cut and how clear our commitments are.”

Her presentation calls for more reliable connections, clearer billing, accessible complaint channels, and measurable actions that put consumer experience first.

At CADEF, we continue to champion a digital economy where every consumer can access dependable services, understand what they pay for, and have their concerns heard.

What’s the one telecom issue you think needs urgent attention in Nigeria? Tell us in the comments. Your experience should be part of the conversation.

What does 𝟵𝟱% 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 mean, especially for persons with disabilities?

The latest episode of the 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 explores the CBN’s 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟴 (𝗣𝗦𝗩 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟴) and its proposed target of 𝟵𝟱% 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

For 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗣𝗪𝗗𝘀), financial inclusion goes beyond access. Can financial services be accessed and used independently? Are digital payment platforms designed with different accessibility needs in mind? And what would meaningful inclusion look like in practice?

In “𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗽: 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱", our speakers @adenikeoyetunde, Folashade Owoola, moderated by Immanuel Ovemeso Umukoro, CDFP, unpack these questions and examine what the 𝟵𝟱% 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 could mean for consumers who are often underserved by financial systems.

Students are arriving, the venue is set, and 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 is officially underway!

Today, students from participating schools are gathering for the 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 to answer the question of consumer responsibility and environmental protection through learning, discussion and art.

The showcase will help students think more critically about how our choices affect people and the environment, including how we use resources and manage waste.

At 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (CADEF), we believe consumer literacy helps young people understand their choices, recognise their consequences and make informed decisions.

As the day gets underway, follow along for the conversations, ideas and artwork from the students taking part.

Enugu, the Coal City, knows what it means to live close to energy. But what does that energy mean for the air we breathe while we shop, work and trade?

That is why Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF) brought the Neighbourhood Power Protocol Stakeholders Dialogue, themed "Consumers for Clean Air" to Enugu.

We convened regulatory leaders and industry experts in one room, including the National Environmental Standards and Regulatory Enforcement Agency (NESREA), the Enugu State Ministry of Environment, and the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN) to get practical about it: What will it really take for Nigerian businesses to go green?

The honest answers came from people who live this reality. Dr. Ijeoma Ezeasor, MAN spoke about the pressures manufacturers face every day. Prof. Emenike Ejiogu, University of Nigeria, Nsukka explained how accessible renewable energy really is, and how businesses can make the switch.

We talked about financial constraints and policies that don’t always work for businesses. We talked about the choice every business makes: either to stay on the national grid, run on diesel, or move to solar. Behind each choice is an everyday consumer who pays for it, in health, in the environment and in cost.

Clean air starts with conversations like this one, and the work moves forward when regulators, businesses and communities show up for it together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Enugu.

Stay tuned for highlights and key insights from the conversation.

Perhaps the greatest crisis facing our world is not a lack of resources, but a lack of love.

Some of the most important moments at the Neighbourhood Power Protocol Stakeholders' Dialogue were the questions.

In Lagos, regulators and agencies including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), and representatives from the Ministries of Health, Energy & Mineral Resources, Environment and Water Resources joined business owners, renewable energy providers and consumer advocates for a conversation about air quality and consumer rights.

Our Executive Director, Prof. Chiso Ndukwe-Okafor, presented air quality findings from four monitored locations: Kudirat Abiola Way, Ketu, Agege and Allen Avenue.

The takeaway was clear: consumers are affected by the air around commercial businesses, and their right to clean and safe air should shape how the problem is addressed.

Mr Akinwumi Ishola of FCCPC further framed clean air as a consumer right, while Dr. Olorunwa Marcus of the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, examined the connection between air quality and public health.

The questions that followed pushed the conversation further:

What is being done in pollution-prone areas? How can consumers speak up and be protected when they do? Which business sectors should move to cleaner energy first?

One message came through clearly: collaboration is key. No single agency, business or advocate can deliver clean air alone.

The dialogue moved the conversation from what the data shows to what it should mean for consumers' right to clean and safe air.

More Lagos highlights are coming. And today, the conversation continues in Enugu.
