What are you afraid of?

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The term “terminally unique” was such an interesting thing to learn about back in this episode w/ @nathanwinkelmes – When it comes to our own issues, of any size or shape, it does always feel like we’re the only person in the world experiencing it, and there’s no way anyone else has a solution.

I’ve absolutely felt that way and it was wild hearing it explained in Nate’s story here!

Easiest music video I’ve ever worked this hard for. It’s madness… for @nathanwinkelmes with @rosstheisen

“Madness” music video for @fears.fm

Another flashback to last year when heavily-over-it-burnt-out-ross got to just do something fun and creative with no pressures attached!

The main day that @jmemerick @nathanwinkelmes and myself filmed a handful of these scenes will always stick with me as a fun one. It felt like we were just making cool stuff just to make cool stuff, bc well, we were.

It was so enjoyable to just roam around different parts of zanesville and grab cool shots of Nate doing cool things. I feel like we ended up getting types of shots we wouldn’t otherwise with an overly produced project and specific location. We drove around, found cool spots, and that was that.

Given that Josh and Nate both still live in Zanesville meant they were shooting together a lot more often for these things, but it felt nice to join for this one, drive down, and make some art!

How it should feel making a music video.

A lot of fun, super expressive and just hard enough to feel like a challenge worth it all… and cats, cars and guitars.

Make art with your friends. It’s important.

I’m 36 and still chasing the dream. I’m passionate to this day and I’m grateful that part of my spirit hasn’t left me.

Being a creative business owner is cool and can be stressful. The pressure to be “successful” make more dollars, get cooler gigs or whatever is real, but I’m happiest when I feel purpose.

Me @nathanwinkelmes and @rosstheisen drive around Zanesville and made this all up as we were going. This is the opposite of how I approach nearly every single project and it was the best thing I did in this season of life.

I love this project. We had genuine fun and freedom to try things. We ended the night literally looking at the stars and pondering our lives.

Music video for Madness.

Do things you wanna do just because. Screw what others think. Do it for you.

A couple years ago @nathanwinkelmes texted me letting me know he was entering an inpatient rehab program, and felt a close enough friendship with me that he wanted to let me know he’d be off the grid for a while, and couldn’t wait to catch up after.

I don’t say this for a social media post, but that small moment of trust meant alot to me.

Getting to have Nate return to the podcast last year and helping shed some light on his full story and experience of achieving his sobriety simply felt good.

This show, towards the end, started being even more “open journal dives” than it ever was and i loved that.

What @nathanwinkelmes learned from his journey of sobriety.
I will always be so appreciative when guests share their battles and growth so openly on the show.

⚠️E147 w/ @fears.fm OUT NOW⚠️

Nate Winkelmes is a musician under the name “The Fears”

After his first appearance on the show being way back on episode 5, this week I sit down for a great return conversation with Nate.

As we catch up with Nate’s story since his past episode 5 years ago, we talk a lot about the evolution of The Fears and his songwriting process and how his relationship with making music has changed.

This conversation is also rooted a lot in self relfection and growth, as Nate walks us through his journey of finding sobriety. In that he shares the realities of what the battle was like, deciding to officially check in to treatment and get help, his mental health growth alongside all of it, big lessons he learned during that time, understanding self-belief, gaining clarity, and a lot of just raw honesty that I really appreciated Nate being willing to share. This one’s a great one.

Insanely fun to pull this all together.

Grateful to @mad.dog.camacho for bringing all the TVs, tech needed to create the effects, really dope DV mini and VHS cams, his projector along with all his know how.

Thankful to @nathanwinkelmes for clearing the space, practicing a ton and delivering some incredible live takes.

So glad @hunter_lepi came out to siund engineer and lend us his ear and second opinions on each take. Made production and post very smooth.

As always, @rosstheisen for being a ride or die for me. He's the most creative and talent person I know. I can't state enough how important it is to have people around you that you can trust fully and how important it is to extend that trust back. He helped with all things on the day of but most importantly the set design. He's the only true art director I know.

Getting to have my fingerprints on this project has been super rewarding to my creative spirit.
