Gould’s Shortwing (Heteroxenicus stellatus)

It lives in a mysterious belt starting from the foggy peaks of the Himalayas (Nepal, Bhutan, North India) and extending to the steep mountains of China, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Caught mid take-off at the Chambal River, the endangered Egyptian Vulture just one step above the earth, wings spread between ground and sky.

A sacred survivor once called “Pharaoh’s Chicken,” now a rare sight in Rajasthan’s wild. A fleeting moment, frozen in flight.

📖 Large, slightly ungainly raptor with long and very broad wings, a shortish tail, and a conspicuously big head. Pale belly and underwings contrast with the darker head in most adults, but juveniles have pale heads. All age groups have a tendency to look a bit disheveled. On perched birds look for the owl-like face and unfeathered legs. Hunts over open areas, spending lots of time hovering with rowing wingbeats into the wind.

Today's star attraction is Greater Racket-tailed Drongo. The exceptional mimicry artist of the dense forest. It can mimic almost anything.

Belenois aurota, the pioneer[2][3] or pioneer white[4] or caper white,[3] is a small to medium-sized butterfly of the family Pieridae, that is, the yellows and whites, which is found in South Asia and Africa.[3] In Africa, it is also known as the brown-veined white,[3] and is well known during summer and autumn when large numbers migrate north-east over the interior.

Half-lost in the lush sprawl of water hyacinths, a Slaty-breasted Rail peeks out like a secret the wetland is trying to keep. Its sleek, ash-grey head—marked with a faint, steely sheen—emerges from the dense cluster of buoyant green leaves and lavender blooms. The bird’s eyes, sharp and inquisitive, flicker with the caution of a creature used to staying unseen. The rest of its slender, striped body is swallowed by the floating jungle, leaving only that quiet, watchful head above water—still as a stone, yet brimming with alertness. In that moment, it becomes part of the marsh itself, more shadow than bird, more whisper than sound.

When I picked up photography as a hobby, I dreamt of capturing moments that felt like magic. One of those dreams? A flamingo, graceful and poised, basking in the golden glow of the morning sun. Today, that dream came to life. Watching this beautiful creature in its natural element, with the soft light painting the perfect backdrop, felt surreal.

At one of the most popular restaurants in Bangalore, @the13thfloorbangalore , we stumbled upon a rare and heartwarming sight—a pair of Egyptian vultures. The staff told us that they’ve been feeding and protecting these magnificent birds for over a decade, and in that time, the vultures have become more than visitors; they’re family.

As we watched, we learned something incredible about them. Vultures are known to mate for life, and this pair is no exception. They’re completely inseparable—one won’t even eat unless the other is nearby.

It was touching to see the mutual trust between the staff and these birds, built over years of care and love. In a world where the population of Egyptian Vultures have been declining, this pair has found a home and a family, and witnessing their unique bond was nothing short of magical.
