On a day of truth and reconciliation, I wanted to share this special 215 cape across the nation. In this post video/photos is Supernaturals model Alicia Hanton taken at SWAIA, video by Korina Emmerich, and photos by Tira Howard. Alicia is in my 215 cape to honour the children found at the Kamloops Residential School, as well as, all the many children we have yet to find. She will be wearing it on the runway for Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week 2022, which runs from November 28 to December 1st. Creating it was a labour of love and healing for me as an artist/fashion designer. I truly believe that the ancestors guided my hands every step of the way in the making of this garment; because what are the odds that it would fit 215 pairs of moccasins exactly?

I believe that fashion art is a medium that can create awareness, educate, and mobilize people to action in a non threatening way. Since the 215 capes creation it has taken on a life of its own and has travelled across the world with APTN’s correspondent Tina House to Rome. The power of one is a very important concept. People often think that they as an individual cannot make a difference. I know that they can. I am one artist among many, who is contributing to the dialogue for social justice and healing. I hope the 215 cape has the power to make an impact on all the people who view it. To galvanize us all with one energy towards a common goal, to ensure that this kind of atrocity
will never happen again. It is fitting that the children buried to be forgotten are the very ones making the world remember.

Ha’mii’ya,

Sugiit Lukxs (Yolonda Skelton)
