Thanks to #netgalley and @feraleye.media for the e-ARC of this book. Let me start by saying I love cats. I am a cat lady through and through and one look at me would probably tell you this. Sadly, I am currently a cat lady with no cats πŸ₯² I have loved and lost cats in the past and when it’s time to say goodbye it’s heartbreaking. If you have been lucky enough to share any part of your life with a cat then this book could be for you. Nightcats is a feminist scream to cat lovers everywhere and it certainly has fangs. The story is told from three POVs, as well as diary entries from a group of Medieval nuns. The main POV is from Vera a 25 year old goth waitress in the year 2005. Vera lives with her less than perfect boyfriend Evan and her beloved cat Sammy (proof that picking cats over men is probably a sound decision). When Sammy goes missing, Vera suspects Evan may have been involved and her hunt to find her cat leads her to her local rescue centre where she finds herself caught up in something bigger, older and deeper than she could’ve imagined. I really enjoyed this book, the idea was very original and when a book is about vampire cats, occult magic, secret societies and female rage you really can’t go wrong. The whole story felt like an ethereal, otherworldly dark fairytale, played out across a Y2K New York backdrop and as such is a very atmospheric gothic read. Vera is a regular young woman just trying to get by and her devotion to her cat and her subsequent rescue attempts are relatable as a fellow cat lover. There is some Egyptian mythology and history in this novel which makes for interesting reading alongside folkloric cat elements. If you like vampires, cats, fantasy, witchy elements, cults and the like, then grab yourself a copy. I would say this novel will probably come with trigger warnings so maybe check them out first. Bottom line - don’t come between a woman and her cat(s). #feraleyemedia #nightcats #arcreview #vampires

|NightCats| "How easy to feed your pet when the food was you." Kristen J. Sollée's novel begins in 1995 where Vera Valcourt is a goth waitress in New York City, living with her dead beat boyfriend, her only sense of joy comes from her rescue cat Sammy. When Sammy goes missing, Vera realises how toxic her life had become and decides to break free in search for Sammy. This leads her to an encounter with a witch, myths, legends and cults all intertwined with the cat world. In her desperation for her and Sammy to survive she has to face the creepy felines that have more than nine lives. The novel is written in the vein of occult horrors and dark fantasy. It merges many fantastical themes to tell a story about unbreakable bonds and how far one goes to remain important in a time where identity is easily erased. What I enjoyed about this book is it takes all these themes and tropes and delivers an addictive story with dark humour that appears in the most appropriate and inappropriate moments making this a fun read. For me there are many parts that I did enjoy however there were a few occasions where I struggled but in the end I can see this book being enjoyed by fans of feminism, occult horror and vampire stories. Many thanks to @feraleye.media for the arc. 🏷 #myweereviews #nightcats #kristenjsollee #newhorrorbooks #arcreviews

It's spooky season (although I wish someone would tell the weather that, I'm still waiting for crunchy leaves under foot!) which means it's finally time to start Nightcats by @kristenkorvette - just in time for the release later on this month. "Set in 2005 New York City, the book follows Vera Valcourt, an aimless goth waitress whose only solace is her rescue cat, Sammy. When Sammy suddenly disappears, Vera is forced out of her domestic cage and propelled into a dark, blood-soaked trail of ancient myths, ruthless cults, and a deadly feline species with more than nine lives. It is described as a sharp, darkly humorous blend of occult horror and urban fantasy." I'm more than excited to dig in to this, three chapters deep and very intrigued! It's time to pop off for a shower, some fresh pjs and then it's time for a coffee, a blanket and as much reading as I can squeeze in before bedtime. . . . . . #nightcats #horrorrecommendations #horrorreader #folklore

πŸ“– ARC Review πŸ“– Nightcats by Kristen J. Sollée 482 pages, Horror | Paranormal Feral Eye, 26th October 2026 A suspenseful mix of occult horror and urban fantasy drenched in dark humor, Nightcats explores the unbreakable bonds between women and their cats, and what we sacrifice to keep our teeth sharp in a world that wants us defanged. Huge thanks to @blackcrow_pr, @feraleye.media, @kristenkorvette for sending an eARC πŸ–€ This is my unbiased review: πŸˆβ€β¬› Feral, Feminist, and Deliciously Dark πŸˆβ€β¬› ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Cats over children. Magic over men. Sisterhood over society." A gloriously weird blend of occult horror, urban fantasy, and dark humour, Nightcats is a blood-soaked love letter to cats and the women who refuse to be tamed. Vera’s desperate search for her beloved missing cat Sammy leads her down a twisted trail of ancient myths, witchcraft, and deadly secrets, where the line between predator and prey grows increasingly blurred. I loved the feral feminist energy, the gothic atmosphere, and the gloriously unhinged cat-lady mythology relayed via Vera's, Cassandra's, and the abbess's triple timelines, Occasionally chaotic, but brimming with bite, this is a wonderfully unconventional tale about female rage, freedom, and the bonds we’ll fight tooth and talon to protect. Verdict: Sharp claws, darker magic, and a whole lot of feline fury. Nightcats is a darkly playful read with plenty of attitude. For anyone who knows cats are never just cats. πŸ–€πŸˆβ€β¬› Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/256129087-nightcats Amazon: https://link.amazon/B0gl7T9G2 Synopsis in comments.
