Last Wednesday, on a perfect New York summer day, the Sabah HQ team took a little field trip for lunch at one of our favorite East Village spots: @carnitasramireznyc

We grabbed Citi Bikes outside the office and rode over to East 3rd Street, where we were lucky enough to arrive without a line.

Carnitas Ramirez specializes in exactly that: carnitas. Nearly every part of the pig, served simply on fresh nixtamalized corn tortillas with onions, cilantro, and salsa. No frills, just exceptionally good tacos best enjoyed on a milk crate with an ice-cold Topo Chico or Mexican Coca-Cola.

What started as “What’s for lunch?” turned into a very good New York afternoon: bikes, tacos, a long walk, a few photos, and no real agenda.

Which, come to think of it, is exactly the kind of day we make our shoes for.

Last Saturday we gathered for “Let’s Give Wonderful Work”, a zine workshop led by the remarkable Beatrice Domond, and we’re still carrying its energy with us.

Thank you to everyone who showed up with openness, vulnerability, curiosity, and a willingness to create together. Every conversation, story, and page made became part of something much bigger than a workshop. Together, we laid a foundation that we hope continues to inspire long after the day ended.

We’re deeply grateful to our partners Printed Matter, By Way of Us, and Vans for believing in the power of accessible, community-driven arts programming. And to Beatrice, thank you for generously sharing your practice and creating a space where everyone felt invited to explore, connect, and make.

We hope each participant walked away with something meaningful. We certainly did. This feels like rich soil to grow from, and Studio Underground remains committed to creating thoughtful, intentional programming that brings artists and communities together in ways that are generous, responsive, and lasting.
