Maybe, I don’t know who I am.
Maybe no one else does either :)

LA DANZA DE LOS VIEJITOS! In April I had the honour of designing lights for this amazing devised mask piece which won Outstanding Production in the Calgary One Act Festival! The Danza team then went on to perform at the provincial festival in Leduc, put on by the Alberta Drama Festival Association (adfa) Winning outstanding production in Calgary and getting to travel with such a talented team to the provincial festival in May was such a wonderful experience. Huge thank you to the entire team for inviting me to be a part of this beautiful show as their the lighting designer both in Calgary and in Leduc. It is truly a heartwarming, inspiring, gorgeous show and I'm so thankful to have been a small part of it. SPOTLiGHT officially premieres today! Episode 1 features “La Danza de Los Viejitos”, a traditional Mexican Folk Dance that my good friend @ivan.guevaragarcia adapted into a mask theatre show! I first met Ivan back in 2024 when we were both in a show called “Lights Out”. It was after that show that he brought together many of our Drama peers together and adapted “La Danza de Los Viejitos” for Alchemy, an annual festival of student works that our program put on in late March. This was when I first saw “La Danza de Los Viejitos”, and I immediately loved it! It was both comical and entertaining, while also being very endearing and heartwarming. I was very happy for Ivan and his team when I saw that they got many opportunities to perform it outside of the University for events like Expo Latino and Mexican Independence Day here in Calgary. When I had this conversation with Ivan, I was inspired by his passion, his will, and his drive to make this show. He and his team faced many obstacles and challenges in making it, but despite that, they were committed to bringing the show to life! Now, he and his team continue to bring “La Danza de los Viejitos” to new and exciting places such as the One Act Play Festival. I also talked with some of his collaborators on this project. @abigail.monarrez who designed and created the beautiful masks for this show (as well as one of the performers in it!), walks us through the journey of designing the masks all the way to their completion. @sofia_huarte18 and @fern.g.r , two of the performers, give us insight into the rehearsal process as well as their learning outcomes from this experience. Catch the full interview on @nutv_uofc ‘s Youtube channel! Link in bio!

Ecos.... What an incredibly rewarding experience it was to be there from the beginning and see this play grow. With an incredibly talented cast and crew, we did something special. Tears were shed and laughs were had with this moving story of what immigrants go through when they choose to leave home for a "better life." @marina_mair_ I've said it a few times now.... But... Thank you. ❤️ 'el funeral' and 'Ecos' were such gifts to work on after losing both parents. I poured my heart and tears into the music and felt lighter knowing they will live on in the music. Thank you to everybody who came out to watch Ecos! Your support and encouragement is what keeps art alive! @rureceiving and Tina @liliu06 @profxavi08 @marlo_lanz @ellieheath @thehumankate @matt.meeboer @heidaarnason @missgryn @matthewskopyk A huge thank you for all the hard work you all put into Ecos 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 CREATIVE TEAM Director Andrés F.
