On the final day of Le Pilgrimage Gravel, there was one last big climb waiting: the Colle del Sommeiller.

Around 26 kilometres and 1,700 metres of climbing take you to almost 3,000 metres above sea level, on one of Europe’s highest rideable gravel passes. The higher you go, the rougher it gets and the emptier the landscape becomes, until there is little left but rock, clouds and sky.

On the way back down, @rifugioscarfiotti was waiting. The final stamp of the journey, a generous buffet prepared by Daisy and her team, and a moment to sit down before the long ride back to basecamp @hotelsaintroch in Puy-Saint-Vincent.

A proper grande finale.

Next week, we’ll announce the dates for both Le Pilgrimage Gravel and the inaugural Le Pilgrimage Bikepacking.

Registration for Gravel opens on 1 November, one week after we launch the registration of the first edition of Le Pilgrimage Bikepacking.

The last stage of @le_pilgrimage always takes two days as the riders leave the comfort and safety of the base camp behind.

This way the route takes the pilgrims further into the Alps and usually also into Italy. In 2026 riders had to make their way across an ancient smugglers route (over the Col du Bousson), cross the border and head up to the (slightly depressing) ski resort of Sèstriere. After that it’s time for the long climb up to the (in)famous Strada dell’Assietta. This old military road has some of the best views in the region and isn’t too busy on a weekday.

Most pilgrims head down one more time to the town of Bardonecchia to rest up for the grande finale!

From Nijmegen to Maastricht, Geile Strecke took us along a beautiful route that everyone seemed to enjoy from start to finish. Along the way we put the FOCUS Atlas properly to the test, but most of all it was simply a great weekend of riding together and enjoying every kilometre.

Day 2 of Geile Strecke started early.

Soft morning light out of Venlo, Limburg hills waiting ahead and plenty of good stops along the way. Then the road opened up, the pace went up and we flew towards Maastricht.

A long day together in the saddle and a beautiful way to finish the weekend. Thanks everyone for making it such a good one.

GEILE STRECKE by @rideout.amsterdam | Day 2

My camera decided to give up today, so I had to resort to my phone.

My @focusbikes Atlas didn’t though. It was fast, crazy and a lot of fun.

Thanks @rideout.amsterdam for organizing such a cool weekend!

Day 1 of Geile Strecke and it already delivered.

Starting from Nijmegen, good weather, fast roads and plenty of moments where the legs got tested. Add a big group, lots of laughs and exactly the kind of chaos a proper weekender needs.

If this was only day one, we’re in for a good one.

GEILE STRECKE Weekender by @rideout.amsterdam | Day 1

First time riding a gravel bike. Turns out it’s a lot of fun.

Also turns out I probably need to drop my tire pressure tomorrow.

One of the best weeks of the year is the one of @le_pilgrimage. This event started at a kitchen table with @rosmolen and I chatting about what we liked (and didn’t like) about the (ultra) cycling events we had joined ourselves.

So four years ago the first edition was there and now we welcome 50 adventurous cyclist from 10 different nations. We created 4 stages that will take the riders into the mountains of @paysdesecrins and the Piemonte and they will run into amazing checkpoints and treasures along the way.

I want to thank the amazing crew at @hotelsaintroch for their energy and hospitality and the amazing organisation and media team: @anne_pekelharing, @yorit_kluitman, @nilsvanderheide, @fernwee.cc, @gijsferkranus.peaksandpines and @thoms.silva for being part of this years edition.

Here are some of my favourite shots of stage 1, more following soon!

A cut of Tomme and Galibier sausage with our Opinel, a sip of Aperol Spritz, trackers and brevets handed out, the final bike checks and a proper plate of food.

Our pilgrims are chaud for a new journey. 🔥

A little throwback to four unforgettable days in the mountains. 🏔️

Endless trails, incredible views, tough days, shared miles, and so many good moments along the way.

@le_pilgrimage was one of those experiences that stays with you. Not just because of the trails, but because of the people you meet along the way. What started as a few days in the mountains quickly turned into new friendships and memories I’ll carry with me.✨
