One year ago today we loaded up as much food as we could buy as staples such as beans and rice were limited at Restraunt supply stores.

We loaded up our 12 year old truck, came back to our office in Boyle Heights and costed out the $450 worth of food we purchased.

We figured out how to feed a family a 4 for 1 week for $33.

Our first day we provided food security for 10 families we personally knew from years of working together.

The next day we did it all over again and fed another 10 families we knew.

Thank you all for your continued support this past year. Your donations, the reposting of stories and volunteering tour time has made our 501c3 a success.

There is No Us without YOU!

Salud,

Damián and Othón

Getting through the year hasn’t been easy (and required, like, soooo much CBD oil), but we did it! And it’s all thanks to our favorite LA restaurants - from incredible East LA burritos to beautiful Korean banchan that leaps off the page - oh, and lots and lots of French fries - check out the 21 best things we ate this year on: The Meals That Got Us Through 2020, link in bio #EEEEEATS #InfatuationL

“2020 has been a year of unprecedented difficulty and transformation for the world, with the restaurant and bar community being especially hard hit. The COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the entire food ecosystem from farmers and purveyors who suddenly lacked businesses to supply, to restaurants and bars being forced to lay off staff and close doors, to food banks with double the mouths to feed and less resources to do so. In addition to this, a historic social justice movement grew, fighting against police brutality, the inequality that pervades American society and hinders the Black community, and the systems that uphold white supremacy. But in the face of adversity, unsuspecting heroes emerged. This was a moment unlike any other for the hospitality industry to take matters into their own hands. So here at Thrillist, we couldn’t close out 2020 without taking a moment to look back and acknowledge the brave people who, despite their own personal setbacks this year, pivoted their lives to step up, go beyond, and make change.”

This has been such an amazing team effort by the @thrillist team & I am so proud of the final result! 😍 Slides are of the heroes I profiled for this feature & link to the full story is in my bio! ❤️🙏🏾🥰

There isn’t a day that goes by where this pie — packed with glorious, just-ripe peaches and topped with a mind-blowing medley of roasted almonds, oats, and lavender —doesn’t cross our minds (which also means there's not a day that passes where we don’t beg @fewforall to sell it again).

For us, quarantine has meant *a lot* more pasta than our pre-pandemic days. For chefs Tyler Curtis, Ramzi Budayr, and Mallory Cayon, sweeping restaurant closures have also meant a lot of pasta...but with a whole lot more meaning behind it. Recently unemployed, the three came together to launch FEW For All (AKA flour, eggs, and water for all), a homemade pasta startup that donates one pound of pasta for every item purchased. They've pledged over 2000 pounds of pasta to LA Regional Food Bank so far, all while providing free quarts of pasta for F&B workers who are out of the job. Support their mission and get in on their restaurant grade pasta, bread, sauces, and treats by ordering at @fewforall.⁣⁣⠀⁣

We’re so thankful to @suaysewshop and @salvagemaria for providing masks to our entire crew from day 1. We’re proud to rock your LA made goods. Please support both of their businesses, they’re doing things the right way. They have looked after their workers throughout the pandemic at great personal cost to their respective businesses. We Love You LA! #Nouswithoutyoula 📸 @melhummel
