Meet Theo Dychtwald 曲修一! Baby Theo was born a healthy and happy 7.9lbs on March 24, 2026 in Shanghai. His incredible mother @feyfey995 - also healthy and happy - is recovering well.

Amidst all of the wonder of becoming a parent, nothing tops the shock and awe I felt watching my super hero wife bring this child into the world. Shock and awe. If he’s anything like his mom, he will have a special combination of determination and kindness that I didn’t think could coexist.

I did a lot of happy, grateful crying as we wiped the slate clean of past hospital experiences with this beautiful one. Welcome little Theo. I can’t wait for all of you to meet him!

This holiday in Shanghai was the first time we met our daughter-in-law FeyFey’s parents - and somehow, it felt instantly familiar. @feyfey995 is almost seven months pregnant, our son @zaktoearth is building a business and a beautiful life with her in Shanghai, and our daughter @caseadillla jumped fully into the experience (including foot massages + acupuncture 😄).

We spoke through Apple Translate, smiles, laughter, and lots of hand gestures—and it worked. Almost Perfectly.
Love doesn’t need subtitles.
Family doesn’t need fluency.
And some of the most meaningful connections are felt, not spoken.
Feeling deeply grateful for this moment, this city, and the new life about to join us.

Beijing is massive, chaotic, & loud. Big hearty food portions. Crisp chilly sunny days. Old mixed with new. Dynasty’s of history - The Great Wall’s size and scale is breath taking. The way day to day runs on WeChat/Alipay is so smart. My chopstick skills are improving 🥢

Visiting Zak and FeyFey’s beautiful home in Shanghai has been incredible. Our first time in China has been both approachable and yet completely out of this world. The Shanghai food scene is special. Zak and I have been celebrating our birthdays together for 32 years but this one takes the (Hokkaido Cream) cake! Niu bee 🇨🇳 !
