The Home Opener deserves its own… Hold the dots and scroll to see it created step by step. #ohl #homeopener #sportsdesign #adobeillustrator It starts with HOME. I started with our bold accent font to give the design a hand written feel, but with some attitude. Then comes OPENER. Layered beneath the two words come together to create a the main Home Opener mark. Completing the lockup. Adding 2026-2027 finishes the lockup and ties the design specifically to this season. Next, the matchup. Firebirds vs. Niagara is placed around the edge of the puck using the type on a path tool. Mark your calendar. The bottom of the circular path is completed with the game date. Framing the design. We kept it simple here with a single, thin, white line around the design. The finishing touch. 🔥 The Firebirds one color logo fills the remaining space and completes the design.

Tonight was one of those hockey nights that I know Blake will remember for a very long time! ❤️🏒 Blake and I went to our home rink tonight to watch the Flint Firebirds play a preseason scrimmage, but little did he know, he was about to get the BEST surprise! Blake’s absolute favorite hockey player in the world, Blake Smith — better known in our house as “Big Blake” — came to the game to visit some of his old teammates and, even more special, to see “Little Blake.” 🥹❤️ Big Blake found him in the concession area, and somehow the timing couldn’t have been more perfect… our Blake was wearing the game-worn Blake Smith jersey that he had won! Thank you to a little birdie who may have let this Mama know a little intel so she could be prepared, as he usually never wears it because it is so special to him! When Blake turned around and saw Big Blake standing there waiting for him, the look on his face was priceless! He was completely surprised, immediately ran over to give him a big hug, and had the biggest grin from ear to ear. ❤️ Big Blake signed his jersey, and we were lucky enough to spend a little time visiting with him! As a mom, there’s just something so special about watching someone your child looks up to take the time to make them feel important! It meant more to Blake than he could ever put into words — and seeing how happy he was meant just as much to me! Thank you, Big Blake, for making Little Blake’s night! 🏒❤️🔥 Definitely a hockey memory this family will not be forgetting anytime soon!
