Happy Sweet 16 to the girl who made me a dad.

Sixteen years ago, I held you in my arms for the first time and experienced a kind of love I didn’t even know existed. People had told me there was nothing like the love you have for your child, but I don’t think I truly understood it until I met you. From that moment on, my life was different.

Being your dad has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. I’ve had the privilege of watching that little girl grow into such a smart, caring, funny, friendly, and genuinely good young lady. I love your personality, your heart, your sense of humor, and the way you care about the people around you.

As proud as I am of everything you’ve accomplished, I’m even more proud of who you are becoming.

Sixteen feels like such a big milestone. You’re growing up, becoming more independent, and figuring out who you want to be in this world. As exciting as it is to watch, there will always be a part of me that sees the little girl who first taught me what it meant to be a father.

Finley, I hope you always know how deeply you are loved, how incredibly proud I am to be your dad, and that no matter how old you get, I will always be in your corner. Love, Dad!

Being a dad is the only superpower I’ve ever wanted. 🦸‍♂️

Not because I can fix everything. Not because I always have the answers. Definitely not because I always get it right. (I wish!)

But there’s something pretty incredible about raising little humans who believe in you, trust you, run toward you, and know that when they reach out their hand… Dad’s hand will be there!

One day they’re jumping off monkey bars into your arms. Before you know it, they’re jumping into college, careers, relationships, families and lives of their own.

My job is to spend these years making sure they always know one thing:

No matter how big the jump, Dad will always be there when they reach for me.

There are a lot of things I’m proud of in this life, but nothing will ever come close to being their dad.

My only superpower. ❤️

One thing families moving to the Treasure Valley often ask about is education.

The good news? Southern Idaho gives families real options.

Boise School District serves roughly 22,000+ students, while West Ada is Idaho’s largest district with about 40,000 students. Families here can explore neighborhood public schools, charter schools, private schools, online options, dual enrollment, and Idaho’s open enrollment system.

Noteworthy info:

• Idaho has about 307,000 public school students statewide.
• Idaho charter schools serve about 9% of public school students, compared to about 7.6% nationally.
• Private school enrollment in Idaho is about 6% of K–12 students, compared to about 9% nationally.
• Idaho’s 2024 NAEP scores were at or above national averages in several key areas.
• Idaho has expanded school choice through open enrollment and a parental choice tax credit for eligible nonpublic school families.

For families relocating from California, Oregon, or Washington, the Treasure Valley conversation is not just, “Where should we live?”

It’s also, “What type of school environment fits our child best?”

Comment SCHOOLS and I’ll send you a helpful tool for researching Idaho schools. 🚍

“Well I’ve been afraid of changing.”

The last week of school has brought SOOOO many emotions. I’ve gone to two graduation ceremonies, two graduation parties, and another one is coming up next weekend. Speech and Debate is officially over for the years My exchange student best friends will all be returning home to Spain within the next few weeks. Five of my closest friends are either moving across the country or taking gap years to work and save up for their futures. My cousin just bought a house with his girlfriend, and both my old babysitter and my former boss and mentor from volunteering at summer camp recently got engaged.

While admitably a bit sad, I am overwhelmingly proud of every one of them. Watching the people I love step into new seasons of life has reminded me that growth rarely happens in the exact way or timing we expect. Hannah didn’t get to walk the graduation stage or get the recognition the way she dreamed of. Instead, she was called to serve a mission in Hawaii. My debate friend didn’t get all of her recognition stickers and scholarship points right away. It took her hours of practicing and honing in on her speech to even make it to state. My cousin didn’t instantly get the perfect relationship or dream home. it took years of growth, challenges, and perseverance to build the life he has now. My old babysitter waited years before finding the right person and receiving the ring she once hoped for. My former boss waited patiently until the timing was right to be with her soulmate.

And then there’s me…
Having to learn how to accept change and continue growing even when the people who helped shape my life are no longer right beside me every day. ☹️
While being deeply depressed, all of these transitions, made me realize something that connects to my community service initiative.
Every person’s journey looks different, and growth often comes through uncertainty, patience, and support from others. Sometimes the greatest thing we can do is encourage people through the in between moments, reminding them that they are still becoming.
