Gulfshore Life has just published an article by Emma Witmer "Inside the Permanent Collections Shaping Naples' Art Scene," that includes a focus on how FGCU Art Galleries plays a vital role in building and preserving Southwest Florida’s art legacy—growing its collection thoughtfully, caring for significant works, and keeping art accessible to students and the wider community.

Every year as a High School teacher, I witness my seniors frantic about the colleges they apply to.

And it makes sense. When I finished my AA at @sfscpanthers , I had a big decision on where to go for my Bachelor's, but specifically in the arts.

Being an alumni of @fgcu and @fgcuartgalleries is something I wear proudly, and always will. Having professors who cared about my experience, not only in the arts, but as a person, have forever changed the course of my life. Especially grateful to @jimmyjoephoto and his kind (and surprising) words!

It's fundamentally changed the way I approach creation, and without FGCU, I never would've been exposed to the legendary artists I met when I interned at @rauschenbergfoundation 's residency at Captiva island. Or gone under the mentorship of @carrellcourtright .

If you have the chance, I would be honoured if you could read this story by Nina Barbero, from the FGCU 360 news story. I discuss how the innovation grant from @palmbeachculture has impacted my daily life, the honour of placing top 200 in Critical Mass by @photolucida , and also how I am closing in on my thesis work with @scad_photo .

I am proud to have grown up in Clewiston, and these 34 years of life have given me great retrospect and perspective. I hope my story can resonate with you, even just a little bit. 🌱🧡

I’ve been waiting to share this one for a while… and somehow, we’re already just one month away from opening!

FGCU is where I first started working with clay and where so much of my practice began. It’s also remained a meaningful part of my life long after graduating. Over the years, my work has changed, grown, and taken me in directions I never could have predicted as a student.

So having the opportunity to showcase that work as an alum of the program feels incredibly special.

This fall, I’m grateful to be part of Reflections in Clay, an alumni showcase featuring the work of fellow FGCU alumni Kel Campbell, Maria Emilia Steiner, and me. We’d love to invite you to join us for the opening reception and artist talk on October 8 from 5–7 p.m. at the Wasmer Art Gallery at FGCU.

It’s been so much fun working with Kel and Maria to bring this exhibition together, sharing ideas and seeing how each of our practices has developed since our time in the program.

There’s something really special about bringing our work back to the place where so much of it began, and I’m incredibly thankful to FGCU for giving us the opportunity to share it.

Meet more of the talented creatives bringing this year’s EMBELLISHED runway to life ✨ From fashion designers and fine artists, and mixed-media makers, every collection tells a unique story.

Anne Meyer is a fashion designer inspired by the beauty of nature, Chinese artistic traditions, and the quiet strength of femininity. With a passion for transforming textiles into art, her designs blend timeless elegance with bold, contemporary couture—creating pieces that celebrate both heritage and imagination.

From sunny SWFL, this mother-daughter duo share their passion for the meditative art of crochet. With decades of experience and a plethora of creative ideas, together, they fabricate a variety of timeless handmade treasures, each one stitched with love.💕

Shama Boutique was born from a passion for fashion and culture—a creative journey rooted deeply in heritage and inspired by God’s creativity. At Shama Boutique, fashion is more than clothing; it is a way to preserve tradition and connect cultures, blending the richness of Indian craftsmanship with modern Western silhouettes.
In this exclusive wearable art collection created for the Bayshore Arts District, we push the boundaries of fashion and imagination with a range of materials and concepts—from silk to steel, trash to pseudo 3D technology, traditional to futuristic elements. The collection features whimsical yet feminine designs that make you feel unique, beautiful, and connected to something meaningful.

Building on themes from her recent exhibition, Is This Desire?, Olivia’s collection explores desire, obsession, femininity, and consumption through wearable art. Lingerie-inspired silhouettes, florals, embellishment, and unexpected imagery combine to create pieces that are simultaneously romantic, playful, provocative, and slightly unsettling.
