🏳️‍🌈 NEW @lgbt_mummies AMBASSADOR 🏳️‍🌈

We’re delighted to welcome Fia Tarrant @fiatarrant as an LGBT Mummies ambassador!

Fia is a radio presenter and proud mum, best known for her work on Heart Radio. After previously hosting late-night shows, she transitioned to Heart 00s Breakfast to create more quality time with her son, while still popping up across the Heart network.

In January 2024, Fia publicly came out, embracing a new chapter of authenticity both on and off air. She is a queer mother of one, and since then, she has become a visible and passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, proudly representing Heart as the face of Pride in London and Pride Brighton. 🏳️‍🌈 @fiatarrant

When you very nearly miss an important panel with the Department of Health… because Whitney’s back went out. Bless her - what a trooper!

We attended an LGBTQIA+ panel for the independent review by Baroness Amos into NHS maternity and neonatal services in England. With a big thanks to @whostherealmama from @lgbt_mummies / @birthbetter for making sure LGBTQ+ experiences get heard and taken on board as part of this investigation.

It was an emotional and tiring few hours with very personal experiences being shared. I’ve tagged those on the panel in this video, please go check these wonderful humans out! 🫶

Stay tuned as we’ll keep you updated on the outcome from this review and the recommendations that are being put forward!

LGBT Mummies joined forces with Make Birth Better, alongside the Department of Health and Social Care and the Maternity and Neonatal Investigation team, to contribute to an LGBTQIA+ family panel discussion.

The panel created space for parents from a wide variety of backgrounds, identities, and family set-ups to come together and share their real-life experiences. These conversations helped shape a deeper understanding of the challenges LGBTQIA+ families can face within maternity and neonatal services, as well as highlighting clear opportunities for improvement.

While the discussions were at times emotional and challenging, they were equally inspiring. The session sparked thoughtful ideas and meaningful solutions focused on improving inclusivity, safety, and compassion in care. It also reinforced the importance of ensuring healthcare professionals are supported with the knowledge and training needed to provide better, more affirming care for our community. 🏳️‍🌈

Make Birth Better came together to work closely with the Department of Health and Social Care and the Maternity and Neonatal Investigation team to host an LGBTQIA+ family panel meeting. 🌈

During this session, we met in person with a diverse group of parents representing a wide range of family units, formations, and identities. The aim was to listen to and better understand their experiences, and to explore meaningful recommendations and solutions to improve the care LGBTQIA+ families receive within maternity and neonatal services.

It was a thought-provoking and impactful morning, generating valuable insights and practical ideas and solutions to support the delivery of inclusive, safe, and compassionate care for queer families. The discussion also highlighted the importance of equipping staff with the knowledge and confidence to provide more informed and supportive care.
