October is here - let spooky season begin! Starting off strong with my favorite interpretation & reinterpretation of Tevye’s dream: his “nightmare”! Though not spooky per se, it’s a great example that October can be fun and not just spooky!

Shows/TV Shows: The Nanny / Fiddler on the Roof
Song: “Tevye’s Dream” (Parody & Traditional)

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia in or around 1905. It is based on “Tevye the Dairyman” and other short stories by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, a Jewish milkman in the fictional village of Anatevka, who attempts to maintain his people’s traditions as outside influences encroach upon his family’s lives. He must cope with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters who wish to marry for love; their choices of husbands are successively less palatable for Tevye. An edict of the tsar eventually evicts the Jews from their village.

The Broadway revival, featured above, began previews on November 20 and opened on December 20, 2015, at the Broadway Theatre, with concept and choreography based on the original by Robbins. Bartlett Sher directed, and Hofesh Shechter choreographed. The cast starred Danny Burstein as Tevye, with Jessica Hechtas Golde, Alexandra Silber as Tzeitel, Adam Kantor as Motel, Ben Rappaport as Perchik, Samantha Massell as Hodel and Melanie Moore as Chava. And, of course, as highlighted below and tagged within, Jessica Vosk as Fruma-Sarah!

Enjoy!

What are your favorite Broadway memories of Fiddler on the Roof?

A bit more Rouge. Always. 💔

As the windmill stops spinning at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre this weekend, we are shedding a Bohemian tear for the closing of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. It’s been an absolute whirlwind of Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love.

To properly send off Broadway’s spectacular spectacular, we’re looking back at some of our favorite @MoulinRougeBway mashups. Swipe through to explore our ultimate Moulin Rouge multi-verse:

I haven’t caught a traveling Broadway show at @basshall since @fiddlerbroadway, but I really want to catch @hamiltonmusical while it’s in town. Who’s down to join me?

Stage Management Journey

Theatre has given me so many opportunities to learn, grow, and be part of something bigger than myself. The Sound of Music was my final show as a stage manager with Fire and Light Productions at the Fort Wayne Civic Theater, after previously having the opportunity to stage manage at the USF Performing Arts Center.

Throughout my time as a stage manager, I’ve helped organize director notes, plan transitions, oversee tech weeks, support backstage operations, and keep everything moving behind the scenes. It has been such a rewarding experience learning how much teamwork and dedication goes into bringing a production to life.

Some of the shows I’ve had the privilege of stage managing include:

• Willy Wonka - December 2022
• Matilda the Musical - January 2023
• Beauty & the Beast Jr. (Assistant Stage Manager) - March 2023
• Brigadoon - May 2023
• The Sound of Music - January 2024

I’ve also had the chance to contribute to other productions through photography, promotional videos, set design, and backstage work, including Clue, And Then There Were None, Elf Jr., Finding Nemo Jr., and Fiddler on the Roof.

One of the most memorable experiences of my senior year was stepping onto the stage myself as the Fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof. After spending so much time behind the scenes, getting to perform was an experience I’ll always be grateful for.

I’m thankful for every person, production, and opportunity that has helped shape my love for theatre and taught me the importance of creativity, organization, and teamwork.
