Introducing the new Issue 5 of @fieldfarepress — super proud of this one, and not to blow our own trumpet but @angrybaker and I think this is our best yet. Running an indie mag isn’t an easy road, but we are so lucky in our wonderful contributors, some of whom we discovered after we made the move to Substack at the start of this year, some of whom we are delighted to have published numerous times before.
Thanks to @lottiehedleyphoto for shooting the cover feature on the wonderful @petershamnurseries, as well as @candidsbyjo for her photo essay on Capri, @hannahrosalinda for her story on Death Valley, @mattdavidnels for his fascinating piece on trekking in Nepal, @photobyshannon for her local guide to Newport, Rhode Island, @nickyjenner_hawksdawn for her series from the Devon countryside, and essayists @jenniferstark, @cowboy.poems @ellnsea, @lindsayjohnstonewriter and @_maureentai_ for their contributions. 🙏🏻

A total joy to spend time at @petershamnurseries this summer working alongside @skyeoneill on the cover story for the latest issue of @fieldfarepress. Issue #5 of this beautiful magazine is a celebration centred around the theme of flourishing and you can see from the gardens, nursery and restaurants at Petersham that it fits the bill! Huge thank you to @angrybaker and @_hollywebber_ for the art direction and design and to the whole kitchen and garden team at @petershamnurseries for letting @skyeoneill and I join their busy mornings to share a little of what goes on behind the scenes to bring the ethos of Petersham into the world. As @skyeoneill writes, “to walk through Petersham Nurseries is to feel that its custodians have thought deeply about how a place might feel if it were left to nature but also shaped by care. It is not manicured in the English tradition of topiary and control and formal ranks of flowers, but something loser and more intuitive. As head of floristry, Therese Johansson, explains, “There are no shortcuts…it’s all about the produce and the people. There isn’t something going on behind the scenes in the garden - it’s a real garden.”

It’s been a long time coming but I’m thrilled to announce that Fieldfare Issue 5 is now open for pre-orders. 🌿
