Day 3 of Gaudeamus Festival 2026 is behind us. We hope everyone had a great time exploring all the concerts and performances across Utrecht.

Yesterday, @laurakampman shared her personal memories through warm soundscapes, followed by Ghadr; @sandy_chamoun, @anthony____sahyoun and @jadatoui with dazzling electronics, distortion, and stunning vocals. Deltas, performed by @nahuelcano2, @ensemblemodelo62, and Juan Fernández Gebauer @88888888.jfg, explored personal and ecological grief through sound and film.

We closed the day at de Nijverheid for KEEP.SPACE.FEST @spaceistheplace_sitp: @suzanpeeters explored new ways of playing accordion, Erwan Keravec brought hymnical bagpipe sounds, and @castelloconsort's baroque ensemble closed day 3 at the Lutherse Kerk with magical timbres.

➔ Get ready for day 4: don't forget to explore our sound art programme Resisting Waters, spread across different locations in Utrecht! @annabel.schouten opens the day with 3 mesmerizing performances in Julianapark. At @kapitaalutrecht, we join forces with @strandedfm, presenting three acts exploring the outer edges of sound, each in their own way, with @elektortek, @deroz4nnn and @phantom.wizard. At @theaterkikker, there's an afternoon programme filled with concerts from the Prinses Christina Concours @pcconcours, Tera de Marez Oyens Prize and @nederlandsvioolconcours.

We are opening tonight's programme at @tivolivredenburg with @marmoucha_orchestra & @tonigeitani, playing Wahj: a performance moving between experimental electronics, ambient soundscapes, and contemporary Arabic musical worlds. Soheil Shayesteh @soheilshay, @nilspettermolvaer and @hetmuziek premiere a new piece, focussing on a live dialogue between the kamancheh and the trumpet. @rojinsharafi will present Sinthome's Scenery, bringing influences from folk, ambient, noise, metal and contemporary music. @collective_lovemusic plays a concert dedicated to the nominees for the Gaudeamus Award 2026.

Up for ending the night with a dance? @kaitokaimusic blends their global acid house with italo, magical vocals and offbeat percussive rhythms.

FIELD FLUX – Sonic Leaks

Sonic Leaks listens to the shape of water and the power that gives it form: the water moving through a system, and the politics of the container that decides where it can go. Wherever water is enclosed – the pipeline, the dam, the metered tap, the gated reservoir – the same conversion repeats: a public substance becomes a saleable container, abundance for those who can pay and stagnation for everyone else. Accelerated, that logic makes water infrastructure a military target, like with the Kakhovka dam in Ukraine, strikes on Gulf desalination plants in the current US–Israel attack on Iran, and Gaza, where data indicate nearly 90% of water and sanitation infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged in the ongoing genocide.

The project partly made during an residence period at @institutocervantesutrecht

FIELD FLUX will be presenting their work in the garden of @whereiscasco

Until Sunday 13 September you are welcome to experience different installations at 3 locations:
@UMU.museum
@bibliotheekutrecht
@institutocervantesutrecht
@whereiscasco

Resisting Waters is project in collaboration with @Residentiesinutrecht

Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons is thrilled to be one of the partner locations for Resisting Waters, a four-day program presented as part of Utrecht’s Gaudeamus Festival this year.

Taking place across exhibitions, sound installations, performances, and moments for reflection, Resisting Waters explores the social, political, and spiritual dimensions of our relationship with water. As the Netherlands is internationally renowned for its water management and flood protection, the program also asks what is at stake when we try to control water: who has access to these technologies and solutions, whose perspectives are overlooked, and how might we understand our relationships with water differently?

At Casco Art Institute, FIELD FLUX’s Sonic Leaks is on view in the courtyard through Sunday. This sculptural installation listens to the shape of water and the sociopolitical forces that give it form: the water moving through a system, and the politics of the container that determines where it can go.

We hope to see you here, our Kiosk and Library are also open for visitations during your stay.

10–13 September 2026, 11:00–18:00 / Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons, Lange Nieuwstraat 7, 3512 PA Utrecht

Also be sure to explore the wider program of Resisting Waters on their website, including guided tours and performances, featuring work by Caro de Valk, Mariko Hori, Maria Sappho, and Nischal Khadka & Merel Maan Galama. The program is presented in close collaboration with Residenties in Utrecht, Instituto Cervantes, the Universiteitsmuseum Utrecht, and researchers from Utrecht University and KWR Water Research Institute.

Resisting Waters is an exhibition that reflects on the social, political and spiritual aspects of water infrastructure. The 4-day Programme features
sound installations and performances by Caro de Valk, FIELD FLUX, Maria Sappho, Mariko Hori, Nischal Khadka & Merel Maan Galama, Stijn Demeulenaere and Yonca Yildrim.

In the exhibition, playful, challenging, and sometimes confrontational installations show how water can leads a life of its own. The Netherlands is an international leader in water management and possesses a wealth of knowledge on how to protect against water and floods. At the same time, water cannot always be controlled. And the high-tech solutions devised to hold back water also raise critical questions: for whom are these solutions accessible? Which perspectives are lost, and what does that mean for the personal relationships people have with water? Together with water experts, we demonstrate how water possesses unique, unexpected, and inimitable qualities.

The exhibition is part of Gaudeamus Festival, the premier festival in Utrecht for groundbreaking and interdisciplinary makers whose work is based on sound, and is presented in close collaboration with @residentiesinutrecht, @institutocervantesutrecht, the University Museum Utrecht @umu.museum and researchers from @utrechtuniversity and @kwr_water Research Institute.
