This is a clip from our Family and Friends Song Circle in early July. This was our culminating song circle to celebrate the end of our spring season. In community singing, rather than having an end of term performance, there is often a ‘Big Sing’, where we gather up all our people to sing the songs we have been singing together. It is such a great way of sharing some of the magic of community singing with those who are important to us. Our regular circles are Tuesday mornings and these bigger circles are Saturday morning, so everyone can come out.

This song is “We are a Forest” by Kestrel Feiner-Homer, a songleader in Minneapolis. Penelope @nelopecat brought it to our circle and we first learned it from Steph and Paul @FiercelyOK. It is such a fitting song that speaks to belonging and connection, connection to each other, connection to our ancestors, connection to the natural world. I love the idea that our community is like a forest, and by singing together each week, we are strengthening our bonds and our sense of belonging.

I’m hosting another pop up song circle in Withrow Park today, if the rain holds out. Look for me to the east of the basketball court, 12:30-1:30. It will be a small circle, but small circles are nice too! Also, don’t forget about the kids swap happening at the market, 9am-1pm. Swap your stuff, then come sing with me!

ALSO! Our fall season of Tuesday morning song circles will start up again on September 15 and run for 6 weeks until October 20. I would love to sing with you! It is so much more than singing. We also do a sharing circle and it is a really nice opportunity to open up about some of the struggles of early (and late) motherhood, or just life in general, if you would like. I find that this type of sharing really helps to connect the group and help us feel like we are not alone in our struggles. And then we feast on a delicious homemade soup and sourdough bread. It really is a perfect way to spend a Tuesday morning. Link in bio to register.

A little clip from our family and friends song circle a couple of weeks ago. We had such a good time singing together! This awesome song is by Paul Barton @paulsounds Check out his website and his Patreon to access some of his community singing songs. And always crediting @fiercelyok for showing us how magical it can be to sing together and bringing us so many fun and nourishing songs.
I miss our Tuesday song circles, but I’ve had some great family time these past 2 weeks including camping and cottaging.
We’ll be meeting up in Withrow Park on Saturday August 1, 9-10am to sing and be together. Find us just east of the basketball court and please let me know if you can make it. ❤️❤️ #communitysinging #singingmamas #torontomoms #singingforconnection #singingforfun

Come let’s sing together!

I love group singing. Maybe it’s the big family I’m from. Or maybe it’s all those years in secondary school choir. I’m not sure now but whatever it was, led to this.

This Sunday July 19th, I will be heading Kingston’s Pop Choir and together, we’ll sing a gorgeous song at the @tettcentre.

I’m feeling very grateful to @therestlessinchoirer and @paulsounds for building this community and for teaching me so much (including what it means to “harmonize on 5”).

We’re creating a relaxing space to create and enjoy music together so l hope you can join in.

No experience needed. No long term commitment. PWYC.

See you on Sunday!

With love and lots of excitement,
- M

We had such a nice family and friends song circle a couple of weekends ago. I wasn’t sure if we would get the desired turnout, but we managed to fill the room! Special shout out to my friends Steph and Paul @fiercelyok for making the trip from Kingston. Most of the songs we sang that day were learned from them, including a few Paul @paulsounds originals, of course. We will be having a casual song circle on Saturday August 1, 9-10am at Withrow Park, just east of the basketball court. All are welcome! I will bring blankets and toys for the babies. This is a free community event, but please let me know if you plan to attend. #singing #singingmamas #communitysinging #toronto #community

Tickets are now available for this month’s Pop Choir! Join special guest, Malobi, for a joyous three hours where we’ll learn a yummy arrangement of a popular R&B tune. Everyone is welcome, next Sunday, July 19th, 1 to 4 pm at the Tett!

Here’s a word from our special guest:

“Hi! I’m Malobi, a singer and instrumentalist based in Kingston, Ontario. I usually perform with Sam the Band, bouncing between folk, afrobeats, and R&B depending on the day.

I’m also a trained teacher, so you’re in good hands for an afternoon of singing. This month I will be teaching Miguel’s “Sure Thing,” an R&B classic that went viral in my heart long before it went viral on TikTok. It has fun lyrics, nice melodies and a super catchy beat, so I hope you can join us!”

This song has 215 million views on YouTube and countless viral covers on TikTok. Written in 2007 and released in 2011, it made a comeback on TikTok in 2023.

If you haven’t heard of this song, and if R&B isn’t your usual jam, we invite you to join us a little outside your comfort zone. It’s going to be a sweet afternoon!

A few things to know:
✨ No prep needed - lyric sheets provided!
✨ We don’t assign parts. Everyone is encouraged to choose the part that feels right for their voice and play with different octaves.
✨ The Tett Centre is accessible for most wheelchair users and equipped with accessible/gender-neutral/family washrooms, in addition to men’s and women’s washrooms.
✨ PWYC | No one turned away for lack of funds.
✨ Nervous about coming alone? DM us to be paired with a welcoming regular. 🤗

More info and tickets at the link in our bio! Feel free to reach out with any questions.
