POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Check out one of our 2026 Nonfiction Selections, “Ode to a Nation in Chaos” by Shehrazade Zafar-Arif (Fiery Scribe Review), selected by Lily Hoàng on bestofthenetanthology.com/2026-2/2026-nonfiction/ode-to-a-nation-in-chaos/

“But at the same time, I’m not convinced of the viability of this narrative. In the real world, the Good Guys and Bad Guys are not so clear cut, and the players of either side, whatever these sides may be, are usually both of the faceless variety: powerful politicians, military and other institutions, corporations. We, the individuals, are usually locked out of the room where it happens, only catching snippets of a larger story that’s being written and manipulated without our knowledge. It’s this inherent disadvantage that makes fighting oppression feel like Sisyphus pushing his boulder up the hill.”

Launching this author page to share that my debut collection, And So I Took Their Eye, will be published by the wonderful team at Bridge House Press in July 2025.

•

When a man is murdered on the black-sand beaches of Guatemala it sparks a sequence of life-changing events across the globe. Involving a connected group of people, from an egotistical yoga instructor down in the deserts of Mexico to a Syrian refugee landing on the beaches of Greece, a murderous pastor in the jungles of Bolivia to an Italian suit maker living under the shadow of his illustrious father, these stories tell of arson, murder, assault and love. Each driven by the old saying ‘an eye for an eye’, they explore what happens when justice is taken into your own hands, and ultimately, what it means to be human.

It is an interlinked collection that explores social power – looking at those who challenge it and those who abuse it due to sex, race, class or wealth. With a focus on immigration and the refugee experience it discovers the lengths people must go to to be accepted into a place.

Most of the stories have already been published previously by publications including @the.downtime.review @fieryscribe_review @minimag_write @themaluzine @unlikely.stories ,and over the coming months I’ll be re-sharing links to those stories for people to explore, or you can wait till the release of the book.

We asked editors to describe their litmag using six words or less!

We thought it would be helpful to present magazines to you based on the feelings they evoke, rather than just providing general overviews.

It was fascinating to see how the creators viewed their publications and we figured that their explanations would be as close as you can get to forming a concrete with such an interpretive aspect.

So, the vibes are bolded, with the magazine name and the genres they accept listed beneath. Most of the mags have instagrams and are tagged in their perpective slides, so go take a gander!
